One of the best things about having your own home is the ability to decorate it in a way that is representative of your own personal style. However, unfortunately, it might not always be within your budget to be able to afford all of the furniture and decorative items that you would ideally like to buy.
Thankfully, there are some tricks which you can use to create a chic and stylish space without having to incorporate lots of different design elements; mirrors, for example, can be used in lots of creative and effective ways, whether that means creating more light inside of the home or adding more depth and space into a room.
So, here are four crafty effects that you can create with mirrors in order to add more style to your home:
Creating the Illusion of Space
If there is a room in your house that is particularly small and feels cramped or claustrophobic, mirrors are a great way to counteract this problem. The bigger the mirror you add into a room, the more space it will appear to enhance; however, it is also important to think about finding the correct positioning for a mirror.
If you put it adjacent to a plain wall, it won’t have as great an effect as if you face it towards a large window or wide-open space.
If you have a room that appears particularly dark or doesn’t get as much natural light as you would like, then placing a mirror in the correct position in the room could be just the solution you are looking for.
Mirrors reflect light back into a room, so if you place one opposite to a window, it will be perfectly positioned to catch the light and bounce it back into the space, lifting the whole atmosphere of the room.
If you feel as though there are rooms within your house that just don’t seem to feel balanced or inviting, it may be that you need to create a focal point within the room that will draw the eye. Mirrors, in particular, are excellent for creating a decorative focus point within a room, and they can be used in lots of different ways.
For instance, you could place a large decorative mirror on top of a mantel above your fireplace, or even use antique mirror glass tiles to create a feature wall. Not only will this look stunning in your room but you also open up the space, so it looks bigger.
Filling Blank Space
If you have a plain section of a wall that you aren’t sure how to utilize, a mirror is one of the best decorative features that you can use in almost any area of the house. Mirrors are versatile as they add texture by reflecting back any textured objects that they face, whether that be a wooden table or a fur rug.
This adds more depth to a blank wall than any piece of art could, while also serving as a practical addition to any hallway or mantelpiece.
