Stress can come in many forms for a variety of reasons.  Whether you’re going through a divorce, or have a stressful job, life can be a lot to handle.   However, stress isn’t only unpleasant; it’s not good for your health. 

It’s in your best interest to learn how to handle stress as well as you can.  When you learn the right tools, even the most stressful of situations will have much less of an effect on you.

Identify Your Triggers

One of the first steps to reducing your stress is to identify what in your life sets you off.   Are you most stressed when you’re at work? Do you get stressed out when you’re around certain people?

By having an idea of what makes you start to feel stress, then you can reduce your exposure to situations which bring out the anxiety in you.  You may not be able to eliminate stressful situations from your life altogether, but you can at least reduce them.

Avoid Stimulants

Many people love their morning cup of coffee.  However, if you’re someone who is easily stressed, then it’s in your best interest to skip it.  Stimulants like caffeine make you more susceptible to anxiety and tension.  The same goes for nicotine.

During stressful periods, consider eliminating these things from your diet altogether.  As a result, you’ll be much more capable of handling it all.

Don’t Be Afraid To Say “No”

If you’re someone who has an active life, it can be challenging to manage all of your to-do’s.  Don’t be afraid to take on less responsibility. Adding more to your plate will only make things more complicated. 

When you have a big list of to-do’s, prioritize what needs to be done first and work your way down the list avoiding taking on any more responsibility than you already have.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Failing to get enough sleep can make you more irritable and likely to crack under pressure.  It may be difficult to sleep during times of high stress; however, it’s more important than ever that you’re well-rested.  You’ll be more productive and less likely to have a meltdown when the pressure builds. Ideally, you should get at least eight hours of sleep, assuming you are a healthy adult.  Try going to bed earlier if falling asleep is a problem.  

Life isn’t always an easy road, and stressful situations will pop up from time to time. However, by putting these tips to use, you can hopefully minimize the effects of stress and clear your mind.

By reducing the stress in your life, you’ll have greater balance, and overall happiness.
