Get Your Eyes Checked

In some cases, your headaches may be due to the simple fact that you need glasses. When your eyes have to overcorrect themselves constantly in order to focus, it can put a considerable amount of strain on your eyes.

If you have frequent migraines, you should schedule an appointment for an assessment of your eyes as soon as possible.  It may be a quick fix that you didn’t even realize you needed!

Use An Ice Pack

The next time that your head is pointing and you feel like your headache couldn’t possibly get any worse, try applying a cold ice pack.

If you don’t have an ice pack, then anything in the freezer will do as long as it’s wrapped in a towel.  Keep your eyes closed and try to do nothing for at least ten minutes.

It should make a considerable difference after that amount of time.  If it still hurts after the ice pack, then apply a cold compress again in another 10 minutes.

Sit In Darkness

Exposure to bright lights whether from a computer screen or bulbs can commonly lead to migraines.   If you feel yourself getting a migraine, take a break and sit in the darkness.

After you’ve taken a while to rest your eyes, you may want to consider wearing sunglasses throughout the rest of the day to eliminate your light exposure.

Drink a Cup Of Coffee

Most people know that caffeine can help you wake up when you’re feeling groggy.  However, what many people don’t know is that it can significantly reduce the pain of a headache.

Try pairing a cup of coffee with an over the counter pain reliever like Advil.  Just make sure not to exceed the recommended amount.

Take a Nap

Sometimes nothing works despite your best efforts.  It may be hard to shake the pain no matter what you try.  When it gets to that point, your best bet may be to take a nap.

When you take a nap even as short as 20 minutes, your body has the chance to recharge itself.  Your eyes will rest, and your system may rid itself of the headache altogether.

If you have frequent migraines, you may want to consult with your doctor to ensure that it isn’t because of something more serious.
