You’re busy with work, trying to pay the bills, juggling everything on your plate, and you can never find the time to go on vacation. Even though you desperately need it, your money has to go towards bills and other payments, so when can you find the time?

More importantly, how can you tell when you need a vacation? Here are some clear signs that you’re overworked and need to take a break from it all:

You give yourself a break, and give yourself some awesome things to do with your friends and family. But even then, you can’t enjoy yourself. If you find yourself snapping at people, then you’re completely stressed and need to go on a vacation, stat.

Even if it’s just for a weekend at a hotel away from everyone else, give yourself those few days.

Your Work Suffers

When you’re stressed, you can’t see clearly or think objectively. This can lead to your work suffering. This is because your brain hasn’t had the chance to rest, so it’s making more mistakes than it should. Keep this up, and you could end up losing your job. Which is worse?

Co-workers and Friends Ask If You’re Okay

Those around you may notice that something is not quite right about you, and inquire into your health. Don’t see this as them being nosy; they’re concerned because they can see what’s going on with you and you can’t. Take their advice and comments humbly and admit that you may need to take a break.

You Can’t Sleep Well

Because of your constant state of aggravation, your brain is being affected and that makes it difficult for you to achieve a restful night of sleep.

You may be exhausted, but your brain might not be able to stay in REM sleep for very long each night, which is where it gets to go on vacation. Restful sleep is important for overall health.

You Generally Feel Unwell

Working constantly without a break and overstressed all the time puts a toll on your organs. Your food won’t digest properly, your immune system doesn’t work as well as it should, and you’re putting your heart at risk, just to name a few.

If you’re not paying careful attention, then you’re putting your entire body in jeopardy.

You’re More Touchy Than Usual

Even the smallest things, no matter how insignificant they are, can throw your entire mood out the window. Overreactions and dwelling on things are signs that you’re making things much too seriously and desperately need a break. You definitely need some space to yourself so that you can clear your mind and get back to feeling like yourself.

Don’t overlook the need to take a few days for yourself. Go to a spa, take a staycation at a local hotel, or just spend a weekend at home doing nothing related to work. Your brain and body both deserve a break so that they can both be in functioning order again.
