Are you planning your first-ever trip to Los Angeles, California? If so, the West Hollywood neighborhood needs to be on your list. To get even more specific, you must go to Melrose Place. I wish this area was my first impression of LA. In West Hollywood, you get a great view of the Hollywood Hills, and there are so many things to do. From shopping and indulging in amazing food to working out and hiking. If you want to explore the West Hollywood area of LA, you’re in the right place.
Below are six things you must do in West Hollywood:
Take a Spin Class at Cycle House
I’m a big fan of spin classes. In New York, I’m a regular at both FlyWheel Sports and CYC. Not to toot my own horn, but I’m actually pretty good at spin. I can feel the beat and go hard and not think about anything for a full 45 minutes. I started doing spin a few years back due to all the press it was getting; SoulCycle this, Cycle House that. Actually, I would regularly read about celebrities loving Cycle House in magazines. Jessica Alba is a huge fan!
Since I have tried all of the popular spin studios in New York, I knew I had to give Cycle House in LA a try. Oh.Em.Gee. It was the most challenging spin class of my life. I was literally dripping in my own sweat when I left and my heart rate was in peak zone the whole time. My favorite part? The instructor. His name was Aaron and he made the difficult class fun and empowering. Definitely give this celeb approved class a try.
Go to Alfred Coffee
Whether you realize it or not, you have probably seen a photo that was taken at Alfred. Each Alfred in LA has a different vibe, but they are all beautifully decorated and it’s very likely you’ll see an A-lister. I was in line with Selena Gomez (not joking).
Not a fan of coffee? Their matcha is legendary! Near Melrose Place, there are actually a few Alfred locations. Hit up Alfred Coffee one day, and Alfred Tea House the next.
Window Shop on Melrose
Melrose Place is filled with high-end shops that are worth checking out. Marc Jacobs and Isabel Marant are both a must-see. If you feel a bit sad you can’t drop a few grand on a bag, don’t fret. End your window shopping with some actual shopping at Glossier. The Glossier location in LA is super cute and there is a fun IG experience in the back.
Eat Lunch at Urth Caffe
This is another place that is popular with celebs. While there is indoor seating, it’s best to sit outside and people watch. Get a large latte, get a small treat, or indulge in a delicious lunch.
Visit the Melrose Trading Post
I had so much fun at this flea market, that a post dedicated to it will be live soon (I promise). Traditionally, flea markets have been a place people can find unique one-of-a-kind items (from furniture to jewelry) at an affordable price. That is so not the case in NYC, so I stopped going to them. Everything is always so expensive. When I was invited to go to the Melrose Trading Post, I was excited to see it, but assumed it would just be filled with items I couldn’t afford. That was so not the case!
I bought a cute homemade bag ($40) and a necklace ($10), and my friends all found affordable items as well. I even found the most beautiful mid-century modern credenza that I wanted so bad. It was only $300, that is not bad for an antique piece of that time period. You can find things like that in New York as well, but I haven’t seen anything less than $800. I even found a very nice table that came with two benches (homemade) for $400. The same thing would be even more expensive at a store like IKEA.
This flea market is open every Sunday at Fairfax High School, and the entry cost is only $5.
Get the Mexican Chocolate Cold Brew from Bandido Coffee Co.
Yes, you heard right. The Mexican Chocolate cold brew was by far the best cold brew I have ever had. It doesn’t need cream and you don’t need to add sugar to mask the bitterness. It’s located right outside of the Melrose Trading Post on Sunday. A perfect Sunday for me would include grabbing this cold brew from Bandido Coffee Co. before heading into the flea market.
As you can see, my friend’s and I had way too much fun when we were exploring West, Hollywood.
