Posted December 18, 2019 by in Health + Fitness

Nothing beats a cup of hot chocolate on a cold day. Holding the mug in your hand while sitting on your couch is just such a cozy feeling. Winters can be very difficult to get through, especially if you suffer from seasonal depression due to the early sunsets, so anything that adds happiness is a wonderful thing. Hot chocolate is one of those things that can add a bit of positivity and calmness to your day. A joyful sweet moment you can choose to have on your own or with friends.

That being said, hot chocolate adds little to no nutritional value to your diet. Which is totally fine, but there is no way going around the truth, sugar isn’t good for you. Thankfully, not all sugar is created equally.

If you want to drink hot chocolate all winter long, but you also want to make active strides towards a healthier lifestyle, we have an amazing recipe for you. We teamed up with Fresh n’ Lean, a company redefining fast food through organic, gluten-free meals delivered to your door. This hot chocolate recipe is not only tasty, but it’s filled with so many superfoods. Enjoy!

Superfood Hot Chocolate Recipe

Ingredients:

Prep Time: 5 Minutes

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and whisk to combine.
  2. Transfer to a jar and store until ready to use.
  3. When you are ready to make hot chocolate, add 2 tablespoons of hot chocolate mix to a mug.
  4. Heat 200ml (about 1 cup) of your favorite unsweetened nut milk and whisk to fully combine.

This mix is loaded with beneficial foods like collagen, maca, chaga and Lion’s mane. Sweetened with coconut sugar, the amount of sugar per serving is definitely lower than most hot chocolate mixes out there. All you have to do is take a couple spoonfuls, and add your favorite non-dairy milk or water, and you’ve got a better tasting hot chocolate than you can buy from any store. WIN.
