Famed Cameron Diaz is finally dipping her toes into the publishing world, and for a very good cause. The 39 year old’s book will be about the importance of nutrition and staying healthy for young girls. A publishing source told E! News,

She wants to stop their fixation on being thin, and for teenage girls to understand that being healthy is more important. She wants to use her celebrity to make a difference. She knows she is a role model to girls and she really wants to use that position to do good.

She got the idea after being inspired by good friend Gwyneth Paltrow and the way she uses her fame to help people. Back in 2008, Gwyneth started GOOP, a weekly lifestyle newsletter providing valuable information on a variety of subjects including food, travel, shopping, beauty and wellness.

After losing her 58 year old father back in 2008, Diaz started to realize the importance of health. She realized habits, both good and bad are created at a young age.

“This book is not about weight, it’s about making the right choices.”

The book will feature advice and expertise not only from top nutritionists, but some of Cameron’s celebrity friends, including Drew Berrymore, Jennifer Lopez and of course Gwyneth Paltrow.

No formal publishing deal is yet in place, but Diaz has been mulling over the idea for some time, and has signed on with a literary agent. If all goes well, this book could be on the shelves as soon as Winter 2013!

She wouldn’t just stop with a book – Cameron is also planning to visit schools across the US to find out what teenagers enjoying eating, and ensure they are making healthy food choices.

Through this project she wants schools to offer better meals for kids. We all know school cafeteria’s all over the country just have pizza, tater tots and gummy bears. The closest thing they have to a healthy option is sodium filled canned veggies and a wilted salad topped with fat infused ranch.

It’s always great to hear a celebrity taking advantage of their fame for the better. What Ms. Diez is doing reminds me of Energy Up – an educational fitness empowerment program that helps children change the way they view food, motivates them to adopt healthier lifestyles, and boosts their self-esteem. Its mission is to fight teenage obesity and prevent diabetes, along with other diseases associated with poor nutrition. They are of course very different, but have the same goal — turning children into healthy confident adults!
