As much as it’s difficult to admit, skin can start to show signs of aging in your 20s and 30s, meaning it’s time to take action and start taking better care of yourself.

Start Taking Better Care of Your Skin

As you get older, you’ll start noticing all kinds of things that are wrong with your skin. From the typical dry or oily skin, to signs of aging and sun damage, it’s time to start paying better attention to your skin and how you can take care of it.

Start by treating yourself to a new cleanser, toner and moisturizer that’s designed for your skin type. If you suffer from dry skin, or you have struggles with oily skin, there are products that can help you improve your complexion and restore the balance. I really like the skincare products from K-Beauty brand, Innisfree.

As well as your morning and evening cleansing ritual, consider other ways you can take care of your skin such as masks or serums. Intensive products can deliver excellent results, helping to improve skin texture and reverse the signs of damage. An affordable option to look into is The Ordinary. This brand has active ingredients that will improve your skin while not breaking the bank.

Take Your Makeup off Each Night

Going straight to bed after a night on the town with your makeup still intact might have been a regular thing in your 20s, but it’s a habit you need to break. You run the risks of breakouts with a makeup-caked face, and it will only get worse as you move around and sweat in your sleep! Not only that, but it can ruin your sheets too.

Use a makeup remover that is easy to use and does a thorough job. Some cool natural makeup removers include coconut oil and shea butter. Baby oil is another product you might have lying around the house for swift makeup removal.

Teach Yourself How to Do a Real Manicure

While a regular manicure makes a nice treat, it’s also a good idea to learn how to do your own. The perfect at-home manicure needs a base coat and a top coat to give the finished look real staying power. If you prefer the gel look, there are kits you can buy that can help you achieve long-lasting, chic nails at home, saving you a lot of time and money.

Learn How to Use Different Makeup Brushes…

Using makeup brushes can help you create more precise and flawless makeup looks, adding a more polished finish. The problem is that there are many types of makeup brushes, which can be confusing and intimidating! Learning which makeup brushes to use and how to use them can help you learn the most relevant tools to make your makeup look as flawless as possible.

If you’re used to just using one or two brushes on your face and eyes, then it’s definitely time to take things to the next level.

…And How to Clean Them!

As well as learning how to use makeup brushes, you need to learn to take care of them. You should clean makeup brushes regularly to help keep them in good condition for application, and for hygiene reasons. Using dirty makeup brushes on your face can lead to blemishes and even infections, so it’s important to keep your brushes as clean as possible. Keeping some makeup wipes on hand can help you keep them clean between deep cleans, helping you get the most out of your brushes.

I personally wash my brushes every Sunday night before bed. That way have have clean and sanitary brushes throughout the week.

Try Makeup Looks That Enhance Your Natural Beauty

In your teens and 20s, you’ll experiment with a lot of different makeup looks, including colors, glitter, etc. As you mature, you’ll likely find yourself leaning towards natural beauty looks for your everyday makeup. Focusing on your natural beauty can help you create some beautiful looks that don’t look overdone.

Consider natural beauty looks that play up your features such as your eyebrows or your cheeks. A matte, neutral eye palette is a makeup must-have for day time and allows you to create a simple look that’s ideal for the office.

If you want to learn more about the best colors and looks for you, head to your favorite makeup brand for some help. Companies like MAC, NARS, etc. can give you a makeup lesson that will teach you key techniques and work with your features to create the perfect look. The money you spend on the lesson is redeemable against products, helping you build up your makeup bag with products that are right for you.

And remember, just because your tastes have changed, doesn’t mean you can’t play with some bolder makeup looks when you want to turn on the glamor – add some color or a dramatic eye to shake things up!

Work with Your Hair Type, Not Against It

We’re constantly changing our hair – the style, color, and even trying to change the texture of it. As you approach your 30s, however, it’s probably time to start working with your hair type, rather than against it. Choosing products that can help you bring the best out of your hair, such as volume-boosting or smoothing products, can help you achieve gorgeous hair. It’s also important that you treat your hair right, using products that repair and protect, as well as add deep conditioning as needed.

Could it be time for you to try a new look? Visit your stylist for a consultation to design a hairstyle and color that best suits your face and skin tone, while also being easy to style. A new look can help you feel younger and more confident, giving you a boost when you need it the most.

Beauty Begins on the Inside

While it’s great to develop better beauty habits on the outside, it’s just as important to nourish from the inside. The right diet can have a huge impact on your hair, skin and nails, and when you eat healthily, it will show on the outside.

Certain foods can help you eat your way to better skin. Oily fish, eggs, avocados and sweet potato contain some amazing ingredients that can help you restore your natural glow. Cutting down on sugar and saturated fat can help you feel more energetic and healthier overall, but the results will also show through your skin. A protein-rich diet is great for boosting hair and nail strength, so make sure you get enough in your diet.

As well as eating the right diet, it’s also important that you drink plenty of water. Water helps keep your skin hydrated and stops it looking dull, so remember to drink water regularly during the day.

Sometimes It’s Good to Bare All

Are you usually too scared to leave the house without makeup? Perhaps it’s time for some bravery! Going makeup-free can feel very liberating from time to time, but it can also be a good boost for your skin. By applying the right skincare, you can allow your natural radiance to shine through. Giving your skin a breather now and then is important, so don’t be afraid by the thought of not wearing makeup. Why not designate some days as makeup-free days to help you refresh your skin?

I personally try to go makeup free for one full day each week, usually the day after I use my retinol serum (I’m currently only using it once a week). I wake up, wash my face, put on a face oil from The Ordinary, and then slab my skin with sunscreen. To be fair, I do still do my brows, but that’s it. I promise!

Don’t Be Afraid to Treat Yourself

It’s good to pamper yourself once in a while. It helps relieve stress, and helps you enjoy treatments that make you feel great. Going to the spa has many benefits, and it can be the perfect opportunity to switch off and forget about work and home for a while. A relaxing massage or facial can be a wonderful treat, helping you feel like a new woman.

Don’t forget that you can also treat yourself at home. A long, hot bath can give you a chance to relax after a hard day, and is the ideal way to treat yourself during the week. Fill it with bubbles and line up a face mask and hair treatment to give you that spa feeling at home!

The ordinary

The great thing about getting older is that you start developing more self-confidence, allowing you to love and accept who you are and how you look. Your beauty routine should be about taking care of yourself and helping you to make the most of your natural beauty, which can mean several changes to the way you currently do things.

From changing the way you wear your makeup to adopting a new skincare routine, there are plenty of ways you can take a grown-up approach to your beauty. Start making those important changes and focus on creating a glow that shows both inside and out.
