The tropics are home to some stunning destinations. From the sparkling shores of Jamaica to the bohemian spots like Bali, there’s plenty to include on any trip. This means that you’ll have the chance to create some incredible memories, but here’s how you can make them even better:

planning a tropical vacation

Prioritize Planning

Planning is the most stressful part of any vacation, but there are ways to make it easier and more affordable. One of the most popular pointers is making sure you book your flights well in advance. Leaving it too late can lead to elevated fares and less seat choice, so book at least two months in advance for any long-haul destinations.

Once you’ve landed, you’ll need some means of getting around. Local transport isn’t always convenient in tropical locations, so consider booking a discount international car rental to promise freedom and price savings on your trip.

Give Yourself Enough Time

Some tropical destinations are ideal for weekend getaways, but most require you to fly for many hours. If that’s the case, you’ll want to make sure you spend enough time in the country to recover from your jet lag so you can truly enjoy what the country has to offer. When your vacation time is for a longer period of time, you can relax and spend your days wandering the streets and gorging on as much local food as you can find.

The key to this is taking enough time off work, so check out the best time to travel to your preferred destination (due to the weather patterns), and ask your boss many months in advance.

Get Off the Beaten Path

Some of the most beautiful destinations aren’t those you always see in travel magazines. When you’ve booked enough time off to explore an area fully, you can dedicate some of this time to discovering new hotspots.

For example, those visiting Thailand may wish to head to the Similan Islands over Phuket, due to their unspoiled beaches and scuba diving opportunities. Regardless of where you choose, it’s wise to book your stay with a local tour guide. Not only will this guarantee insider tips and safety, but you’ll be doing your bit to directly help the local community.

Don’t Shy Away From Luxury

Outside of the United States, luxury is easier to come by for a fraction of the price. This means you don’t need to limit yourself to staying in hostels every night – even if they are lots of fun. Instead, search online booking sites before you depart to see if you can find any hotel deals.

From five-star to all-inclusive, even having just a few nights of luxury scattered throughout your vacation is sure to help you remember it.

Have an Active Vacation

Otherwise known as adventure tourism, active vacations are one of the most rapidly growing industries in the world. While lazing by the pool is a great way to relax on your getaway, there are plenty of benefits to trying some active days out on your trip.

Whether it’s stress-busting or experiencing an abundant natural world, you are sure to get your endorphins flowing. It doesn’t matter which destination you choose; wherever you are in the tropics, you’re likely to find volcanoes, hidden beaches, and rainforests, all of which make for some magical travel moments.
