10 Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day This Year

Posted January 21, 2024 by in Lifestyle

February is almost here and with it comes Valentine’s Day. Many people like to make plans with either their partners or friends for this special day. It truly is a wonderful day for us to show our loved ones how much we love and appreciate them. Take these 10 ideas as a source of inspiration and spend your Valentine’s Day surrounded by love:

Enjoy Valentine’s Day Alone

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to exclusively be just for couples. If you’re single, this is a perfect occasion for you to celebrate your love for yourself. Take this day off and enjoy your own company. Treat yourself to a nice meal, take a spa day, watch your favourite movies, or take yourself out on a date.

Self-love is just as important as any other kind of love. Be gentle to yourself.

A Day for Friends, Not Lovers

This day can also be a great opportunity for you to show your friends how much you love them. There are many ways you can express your love and respect to your friends.

Go outside and enjoy this day together by having a picnic in the park. If it’s too cold where you are to do that, get your favorite takeaway and have an in-home picnic in your living room.

You can also give them Valentine’s Day cards and write a short message about how much their friendship means to you. This is a great option for those who live far away from their friends.

Revisit Your First Date

Valentine’s Day is also a chance for you and your significant other to revisit some old memories. This is especially romantic if you’re in a long-term relationship. Passion seems to fade away as time goes by. That is why going back to the old days and remembering how it was when you first fell in love with each other can be quite romantic and it can help you bring back the old flame.

Make a Romantic Date

This year make it a goal to be creative for your Valentine’s Day date. A simple romantic dinner sure is a great choice, but if you and your partner enjoy specific activities together, then try to come up with something new that will bring a new spark to your relationship.

For instance, you can sign up for a dance class or a cooking class and learn something new together.

Express with a Rose

This one is simply a classic and it never goes out of style. Surprising your loved one with beautiful flowers is one of the best ways to start your Valentine’s Day. This can especially be romantic if your partner has a favourite type of flowers. Getting your loved one their favourite kind of  Valentine’s Day flowers will brighten up their day and make it extra special for them.

Small acts of love like this one can mean a lot.

Sweets for Your Sweet

Apart from buying flowers for your loved one, you can also choose to buy them their favourite sweets for Valentine’s Day. Look at it this way – you can never go wrong with chocolate. Everyone appreciates sweets for gifts. You can buy a box of heart-shaped chocolate for your partner alongside the flowers you bought.

Organise a Movie Night

Speaking of movies, is there any better way to spend Valentine’s Day together than by binge-watching your favourite movies or TV shows together while snuggling together in comfy blankets and pillows. This alone time can be refreshing and help you both boost your energy levels together. Put on your favourite movie, get cosy in your pyjamas, and enjoy a quiet evening together.

Dress Up in Your Finest

This is a very special day and you can use it to dress in your finest outfits. Take this occasion to pull out some of your fanciest clothes. Even if you have nowhere to go, you deserve to feel fabulous and good in your skin.

Treat yourself right for this day. If you feel like you have nothing that fits this idea, go shopping and treat yourself to some new clothes. You can enjoy this activity with your partner too. Try different outfits and pick them for each other and then go on a date wearing clothes that you picked for each other.

Make a Homemade Card for Someone

Making Valentine’s Card for your loved one can feel very personal and intimate. Use your imagination and pour your feelings out on paper. It’s a small but very thoughtful gift that will make your partner feel very special and loved.

If you’re exchanging Valentine’s Day gifts with your partner and you don’t want to give them the traditional chocolate or roses, consider gifting them something personalized, like monogrammed handkerchiefs, a monogrammed handkerchief with your wedding date, or some personalized kitchen and tea towels. If you’re more about Galentine’s Day, make your bestie a homemade card that tells them how much they mean to you and pair it with a personalized candle that smells like their celebrity crush to go along with it.

Spend Quality Time with Loved Ones

Lastly, simply spending quality time together is very important and can make this day feel very special. No matter what you do, as long as you spend time together appreciating each other’s company. You can go have a picnic together, have a movie night, spend some time aimlessly driving around listening to your favourite songs, or go on a dinner date.

Turn off your social media for a day and enjoy some time alone together.

All things considered, Valentine’s Day is a very special day. No matter if you’re single or taken, it’s important that you express your love for your friends, family, a loved one, but don’t forget about your love for yourself too.
