3 Positive Things You Should Do for Yourself in 2020

As we settle into the new year, resolutions have fizzled out and normal routines have kicked back in. If that sounds like you, don’t feel bad or discouraged. Resolutions tend to be unrealistic and unfair rules we give ourselves as they often focus on things we dislike. It’s 100% okay to completely drop those 2020 resolutions, if they don’t spark joy. 

That being said, we all tend to feel better when we have our sights set on something. Goals are good, intentions are also good. Instead of focusing on things you dislike about yourself (often the case with resolutions), why not set some goals to feel more invigorated in 2020? Because living life more meaningfully can improve your happiness immensely.

Here are three things you should do for yourself in 2020. These three things will most likely help you feel more positive and inspired in your day-to-day:

Do those things that you have always wanted to do

We all have those things that we want to do, yet never quite get around to doing. There will always be a reason why, it might be time, money, or opportunity, but the biggest barrier will be you. You need to give these things priority and make this the year that you make them happen. 

You might be keen to take on a new challenge and learn something new. This could be absolutely anything, from going back to college to taking up a new hobby. Learning new things boosts our confidence and our creativity, so take a little time to look into courses and options available to you and get something in your diary. 

You might have been wanting to do something for your health, your confidence, or your wellbeing. Perhaps you want to try a new nutrition regime, maybe you want to get laser eye surgery or perhaps you would like to go to a coolsculpting clinic. Do not let the old excuses hold you back, go and research whatever it is that you are keen to do and get the ball rolling. 

Spend more time with friends and family 

We all lead busy lives, so it can be very easy to not talk to or see your family and friends for a day, a week, or even a month. Sometimes even longer! But you know what? Almost all of us feel happier when we spend time with our loved ones—you can be yourself, you can relax, laugh and talk. Which is why it makes perfect sense to make this the year that you spend more time with them.

If this is important for you to do this year, then make it a habit to contact the people that you want to see at the start of every month this year and get something planned. Make time for sociable nights in together and fun activities that get you out and about. 

Travel, explore, and go on adventures

Traveling broadens your horizons, offers up new experiences, and allows you to see things from a different perspective. It takes you away from the day-to-day and gives you a break to think.  

Given that we all have different travel aspirations, budgets, and time, find a way to incorporate travel that suits your lifestyle and budget. You might commit to a few long weekends away, you might book the summer off and travel a continent, or you might go for a day trip to somewhere new once a month. 

It does not matter what you do, just go for a change of scenery, get out and about and look at the world from a different vantage point. Just don’t forget travel insurance if you plan on traveling overseas.
