No matter your style preference, denim shorts are a must-have for summer weather. Light wash, dark wash, cuffed, or distressed, you’ll definitely find a pair that suits you. Pick up a pair at your favorite retailer or thrift shop, or get creative by cutting up an old pair of jeans.
Since they’re a staple piece, they can be styled with practically everything. Whether you’re trying to dress for a fancy night out or a lazy beach day, denim shorts will help you achieve the perfect combination of comfort and chicness.
Below are four different ways I styled my favorite pair of denim shorts — from comfy sweaters and bohemian kimonos, to colorful blazers.
1. Add Crotchet
For this look, I was inspired by this lovely crotchet kimono from Zara. Can you believe it was only $20 on sale?! It’s a unique statement item that gives off a 70’s vibe. I could have easily made this kimono more fancy, but I decided to dress it down by pairing it with a crop top, denim shorts and dark lipstick.

2. Add a Sweater
Not every summer day is sunny and beautiful. For those inevitable rainy days, I like pairing my denim shorts with comfy sweaters. To add some pizazz, accessorize with a wide-brimmed hat and colorful lipstick.

3. Add a Blazer
Blazers have the ability to make casual outfits look sophisticated and fancy. Without the silver heels and pink blazer, my denim shorts and graphic top are very casual. The added items turned my day look into a perfect night out look!
4. Add a Statement Piece
I like being comfortable in the summer, and a great way to do that while still being stylish is to wear a statement piece of some sort with a pair of denim shorts. For this specific look, I paired my simple floral top with a black fringed kimono. To finish up the outfit I added a few accessories: silver jewelry, buckle wedges and a hat. This look is very bohemian and perfect for warm summer nights!
