5 Productivity and Efficiency Tips for Getting Some Work Done During Your Travels

Below is a list of 5 productivity and efficiency tips for getting work done during your travel time:

1. Organize Everything

Be sure to plan everything, down to the littlest detail, before you board your flight. This way, you can see where there are gaps or downtime in your schedule which you can take advantage of to be more productive and get more work done. Be sure to factor in any time zone changes when scheduling meetings with anyone back in your home office. 

Take advantage of car services and online tickets for trains and all other forms of transportation. In most cases, you can find great car rental deals in major cities like New York City to better navigate your trip. And don’t forget to schedule meal breaks throughout your days. This will give you more time to do other things, like rest or network with new people. 

2. Network

Where ever you are, take advantage of the opportunity to meet new people. You may just find that you can help them or they can help you. New customers, and/or new friends, are going to simply be a “Hello” away. Take advantage of waiting in lines, sitting at a bar, or ordering food. You never know who may be standing next to you. 

3. Rest

You may think you need to be on the go every minute you are out of the office. However, if you are on vacation, you need to rest. This may not always be easy if you have a young and curious family, but you can benefit from a relaxing lay-down next to the ocean or the hotel swimming pool. Bring a book, something non-work related, to help you rest and relax.

4. Exercise

If you exercise at home or at the gym, continue to do this while you are out of town. Most hotels have small gyms with different types of equipment you can use. If not, you can choose to log into a class on the Internet.

You need to keep your routine as close to normal as you can to help maintain a healthy body and mind. 

5. Get Your Sleep

You may be tempted to stay up late or find the best local nightlife while traveling, but getting plenty of sleep is essential when traveling. If you are traveling across different time zones, it is most important to get plenty of sleep. You may not be able to regulate your sleep in a time zone that is several hours off from yours, but try to sleep as much as you do at home. 

Traveling, whether for business or pleasure, can be fun, exciting, and stressful. Do as much planning and organizing before leaving as you can to help ensure you have a carefree time. And if you need to be productive and get some work done, it will be easier to do when the time comes.
