5 Surefire Signs You Need A Career Change

Posted January 23, 2017 by in Career

Do you find yourself constantly stressed at work, like you don’t fit in at the office or are simply finding it the biggest challenge to wake up every single morning and head off to work? While most of us would rather lead a life of leisure and not have to worry about going to work, the reality is that the vast majority of us do indeed need to sustain a job in order to live the life we want.

With that said, you shouldn’t have to feel like going to work is a chore – your career should be one that you are truly passionate about and something that leaves you feeling fulfilled at the end of the day. If this is not the case for you, you may need to consider a career change. Here are five signs that you need a career change:

You Are Constantly Drained

If you find that you are constantly tired, stressed out or completely drained at the end of the day, then it may be time to find something new that sparks passion inside you. Truth is, if you are not passionate about your work, your work simply will not like you back. Unfortunately, overly-stressful and misaligned work can all too easily make your body break down. If this is the case, it may be time to enroll yourself in a course that is aligned with your true passions.

Whether it is learning how to become a stylist, volunteering at an animal shelter or gaining new skills and knowledge in a different field through further studies, it may be the time for you to say goodbye to your old job and hello to a new one.

You Dislike The People Whom You Are Surrounded By

There is nothing worse than not feeling like you fit in, whether it is at school, in your social circle or at work. If you feel like you are not exactly the biggest fan of the people whom you are surrounded by at the workplace, it may be time to look for a different job which will surround you with people who are similar to you in mindset and are more aligned to your personality and likings.

You Don’t Have A Healthy Work/Life Balance

If you find that you are spending less and less time with your friends and family due to work commitments, or on the other hand, are unable to commit the necessary time needed to your job, then you may have to consider looking elsewhere when it comes to your career.

A healthy work/life balance is very important for both mental and physical health, and this is something that is key to a happy and healthy life.

Your Passion Is Waning

Do you still believe that the work you are immersing yourself in serves an important or worthwhile purpose? Does it make you feel fulfilled at the end of the day, or are you just following your usual routine for the sake of following it like a robot these days? If your relationship with work has transitioned from one of passion to a tedious and soul-sucking drain, then the time has come for you to move on to bigger and better things.

When “Right” Feels “Wrong”

If you feel like you have made all the “right” choices and have done everything that has been expected of you,  yet still wake up in the morning bored to death with your work, you may be left in a state of confusion and shock.  The thing to realize here is that the “right” choices in the world of careers usually are in line with pleasing others or stroking your own ego, rather than asking yourself the important and sometimes tough questions like “Is this where I belong?”. If this is how you feel, pack your desk up – it’s time to search for something else.

If you feel like some of these signs are in line with what you are currently experiencing, then we urge you to go out and search for something that truly brings value, fulfillment and joy to your life. You only have one life to lead, and spending your life stuck in a career that leaves you drained, tired or depressed at the end of the day is not the way to go.
