If you’re looking for some easy to follow tips for turning your outdoor area into a party paradise, keep reading. Below are six of our top tips that should make your next garden party one to remember.

Have a Backup Plan

You may get lucky with the weather, but chances are you’ll have to look into marquee hire or other ways to keep your guests sheltered from the weather conditions. The weather is so hard to predict so make sure you have a backup plan in place for if it gets too hot, too cold or begins to rain throughout the day. If you’re trying to keep your guests strictly outdoors then make sure the protected area is as comfortable as possible.

You may want to provide throws or blankets for later on in the evening once it gets cold. Knowing that everyone is comfortable and well looked after will also help you to keep stress levels to a minimum, allowing you to fully enjoy yourself. If your backyard is too small and you’re unable to provide shelter then it’s also a good idea to prepare an area inside just in case the weather takes a turn for the worse. This way you can quickly take your guests inside at the first sight of any bad weather.

Use Every Inch of Available Space

When working with small spaces, try to use up every scrap of outdoor space there is. An outdoor rug or artificial grass can be used to cover floor space. Adding mirrors is also a good way of making the space feel bigger and less cramped. Just be strategic when considering furniture placement, you want to have enough for people to sit down and relax but also leave enough room for those who want to stand around and chat or have a dance later that night!

Create Some DIY Furniture

Making upcycled furniture from materials you may have laying around the backyard is a great way adding character and charm to your space. It is often also considerably cheaper than going out to buy new garden furniture. With a bit of creative thinking, old pallets can be transformed into tables and benches. Tree stumps can become stools or side tables and any unused corners can be dressed with throws and plenty of pillows to provide relaxing seating areas.

Consider Lighting

Lighting can make or break an area and this is no different when it comes to your backyard. Soft subtle lights often work best in outdoor spaces so instead of blinding your guest with harsh, artificial lighting opt for a number of different outdoor light ideas to give a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Fairy lights often look great when strung overhead and above sitting areas or furniture. They are also quite inexpensive and can be found in most hardware stores.

Candles are another cost effective way of adding both light and a relaxed atmosphere to the outdoor area. You may also want to add landscape lights to surrounding shrubbery and around paths or patio areas. Natural light sources such as that from a fire pit is also an excellent way of providing light, whilst also keeping the area warm throughout the evening.

Embrace Swings and Hammocks

Not only do they look great but people love swings and hammocks! If you don’t have space for a hammock, think outside the box and hang an old tire or a simple rope swing instead. They’ll not only be comfortable to sit on but could be a talking point and add excitement and fun to the day. Just make sure to get some professional help when installing items like this if you are unsure.

Bring the Inside Outside

Bringing indoor comforts into your backyard can make the space look and feel really special. Use real serving dishes and plates, adorn the space with textiles and cushions and even set out some of your indoor furniture if you have the room. Quirky touches such as lanterns, vases of flowers and photo frames can be all you need in terms of decoration when it’s done correctly. Before your party starts simply go inside and consider if there is anything in any of the rooms that your outdoor space could benefit from.

Planning a party can be stressful at the best of times. But when the venue is your backyard, there’s so much more to consider. The warmer months are an excellent time to make the most of your backyard, and what better way to enjoy the great outdoors than throwing a party for your friends and family?
