7 Beauty Products Worth The Splurge

Posted June 25, 2012 by in Beauty

Broke & Chic had the opportunity to talk to beauty expert Jarvis DeRoche and Manhattan based hair stylist, Laurie Dimitriou to tell you what’s worth the splurge and what’s not.

When it comes to beauty products, the price you pay directly affects the formula and the chemicals of which it is made, proving the theory, “you get what you pay for.” If you have dry or damaged hair, using that 99¢ shampoo and conditioner from the dollar store won’t hydrate your precious tresses like you hoped.

According to Dimitriou:

If it all comes down to money, splurge on the shampoo and conditioner. It’s okay to save on the styling products. Avoid hair products that have sulfates, phosphates and parabens. Really read your labels. And don’t forget to buy products meant for your hair type.

Oribe

Oribe is a luxery hair care line created by famed hair stylist Oribe back in 2008. These products are pricey, but actually do what they say they’re going to. Their styling products are to die for. Perfect for the volumista out there. Here are a few of our favorites.

Dry Texturizing Spray: You’ll get bigger, better, full-on glamorous hair. This invisible dry hair spray builds in incredible volume and sexy texture. Patented polymers absorb oil at the roots, making it a brilliant alternative to dry shampoo.

Volumista Spray: Get the volume you’ve always dreamed of!

Saryna KEY

The whole line is wonderful, but Dimitriou’s favorite is the African Shea Butter from the Damage Repaire Series. This deep conditioner is perfect for the girl with damaged, over processed locks.

Super Smile Whitening Toothpaste

This is DeRoche’s personal favorite. Most commercial whitening tooth paste contains a gritty abrasive to scrape away the pellicle — the thin layer of protein that forms on the tooth surface, and to which plaque, bacteria, and of course, stains adhere. Super Smile contains Calprox, which gently dissolves the pellicle instead.

I’ve personally been using this product in green apple for 6 months now. I feel like I just had my yearly cleaning every morning and night. I’ll never go back to regular tooth paste!

Caudalie Premier Cru The Eye Cream

This product is for those who wish to combat all signs of ageing: wrinkles, lack of firmness, lack of radiance and dryness. According to DeRoche, this product really works:

This is the only eye cream I ever used, where I actually felt the difference immediately.

$95.00

Clean Scene Spot Treatment by Murad

Applying this spot treatment at the first signs of an annoying zit will greatly reduce the severity of it.

Enjoy Shampoo & Conditioner

I’m a fan of this whole line, but Enjoy’s shampoo and conditioners are my favorite, as they cater to all hair types. Out of everything, I recommend their hydrating and luxury line. All of Enjoy’s product are sulfate-free and work to repair your hair over time. Note: Enjoy’s leave-in conditioning spray actually doubles as a skin lotion — what a great way to save a few bucks!

$17.00-$25.00
