7 Hair Accessories You Didn’t Know You Needed

Posted July 24, 2019 by in Beauty

It may be time to lose the hair elastics and boring clips. Hair accessories these days do more than just help you hold your hair up or keep loose hair in place, they help you define your look and enhance your overall appearance. Here are seven look-defining hair accessories that you must try this summer:

Bobby Pins

Bobby pins which are also known as hair slides can be found in nearly everyone’s hair accessory collection, including mine. Although they are used for hiding loose strands and keeping hair in place, they can be so much more.

Bobby pins are for everyday use and are available in various shapes and sizes and can be conveniently found in most drug stores. However, hair slides are much nicer in style and are often used to dress up a hair style for special occasions, so they are mainly found at specialist stores. This hair accessory has the ability to add some spice to your look. Let the image below be your inspiration.

Hair Ribbons

One can hardly forget the colorful hair ribbons we used to wear when we were kids. Think our generation has outgrown them? Think again!

Depending on the look you are going for, you can use hair ribbon to add some flair to your braids and ponytails. The hair ribbon is a great accent for faux locs as well.

Not a fan of ribbon? Yarn and fabric are great alternatives to ribbon. To find your style, visit your local arts and crafts shop.

Hair Rings

You can rock hair rings on your braids, on your twists, or directly on the hair itself. T It is a great accessory especially for natural hair because it does not pull or tug your hair. You can even use them to accessorize your human hair wigs

The best thing about hair rings is that they come in multiple colors to match whatever look or outfit you are going for. If you do not have luck finding them at your local beauty store, you should try getting them on Etsy.

Head Scarves

This is a fantastic hair accessory to have because, for one, it is great for all hair types whether long, short or medium hair length.

You can tie it in top knots, or just wrap it around your head. The limit to what you can do with a headscarf is endless. The headscarf is a great accessory for messy hair days too, and it looks way cuter than a baseball hat.

Hair Wire

If you are looking for the hair accessory to tune up your appearance and give you that edgy look, you should definitely try out hair wire. You can use it on various hair forms, rock it on Bantu knots, faux locs, and even space buns. The next time you purchase remy hair for your stylist, give her a heads up that you want hair wire; she may already have some in the salon.

Rose gold is the popular color choice for this accessory, however, you can try gold and bronze too. It totally depends on the look that you are going for. The great thing about the hair wire is that it is very flexible meaning you can twist, bend and shape the wire to suit your hairstyle. For that out of the world look, you should consider the hair wire.

Scrunchies

When it comes to fashion and trends, the looks we loved from 90’s have been back en vogue for a few years, and that means…so is the hair Scrunchie.

The best thing about Scrunchies is that they can not only serve as hair accessories but they also double as wrist accessories too. They are much looser than regular elastic bands and they are way chicer.

Brooches

Brooches, which became popular in the 1960s, were first worn on the shirt. However over the years, brooches have become a popular hair accessory. Especially for formal events! If you have a formal event on your calendar, book an appointment with your stylist to add length to your hair ASAP. Updo’s are best suited for long hair. Your stylist will most likely have the bundles with closure that you need to add length. If not, you can always invest in your own clip-in extensions.

Once your hair is longer, the brooch will add extra shine and elegance to your hairstyle. Brooches can easily be found at your local thrift store. Try Goodwill or Salvation Army!
