In this trying time of Covid-19, it is important to keep yourself and your family safe and as healthy as possible. This can be somewhat difficult when your community is under lockdown orders. You may not be able to go to the gym or out to eat a healthy meal, but there are things you can do in your own home, or backyard, to keep yourself active. For more information, go to conservehealth.
Here are 7 healthy activities to keep yourself active during the lockdown period:
1. Get Outdoors
Since your local gym may be closed or at a limited capacity for members, go outside to get in your workout. You can jog or run around your neighborhood, as long as you stay away from others who are also exercising. Even if the weather is a bit chilly, you can layer your clothing to keep warm and go for a brisk walk or run.
2. Take Up Tennis
Tennis is a wonderful exercise that keeps players at a distance. It is also a great way to keep your body and mind in shape. If you cannot find a tennis partner from your own household, you can play with a friend or neighbor and maintain your distance to avoid spreading the virus.
Search your local Chamber of Commerce for new and different local hiking trails. It is always exciting to find new trails to explore. Most will be open to the public, if only on a limited basis.
Be sure to pack enough water, wear your mask, and practice distancing from other hikers.
4. Build an Obstacle Course
If you have young children, keeping them busy and active can be a challenge. Look around for things that can be used as an obstacle course in the backyard. Old tires, PVC pipes, and clotheslines can all encourage children to get moving and compete with one another for bragging rights.
5. Online Classes
Take advantage of online or streaming exercise classes that allow you to work out in the comfort of your living room. Most do not cost much and some are free through your local library. You can choose a class that will interest you and help you progress as fast or as slowly as you would like.
6. Don’t Spend Money
If you are joining a class online or through a streaming service, you do not have to invest money in equipment. Choose a class that uses your own body weight. Yoga, Burpees, squats, planks, and good old fashion calisthenics are to be performed without the added expense of the equipment.
7. Get Plenty of Rest
Do not neglect your sleep. During this trying time, many individuals are having trouble sleeping. It is important to get plenty of rest as well as exercise. When you begin and continue an exercise routine, you will find your sleep will improve. Just be mindful of your body and when you feel tired, stop and rest.
Besides staying active in your body, make sure you challenge your mind with puzzles, trivia games, and other types of mind testing games. Maintaining your health during lockdown is important to getting through this universal difficult time.
