make your 30s your best decade yet

While many of us enter our 20s with the belief that we have it all figured out and we know exactly who we are, by the time we reach our 30s, it usually becomes clear that this is far from the case. In reality, much of our 20s are spent trying new things and making mistakes before we eventually come to the realization that nobody ever really has life figured out. The person we have been trying to be is not us, it’s a journey towards accepting ourselves.

In our early 30s, many people take stock of all that they’ve been through and use their experiences to prioritize what is important and put their health and happiness first…you know, like quitting your posh job and leaving your apartment to live out of a suitcase and travel the world. Or was that just me when I turned 30?! 🙃

To help you learn to love yourself for who you are and to stay healthy and happy in your 30s, here are seven tips to make your 30s your best decade yet:

live your best life in your 30s

Stop living for social media

There’s nothing wrong with sharing your memories and experiences with your friends and family on social media, but when your first impulse is to capture and post what you’re doing rather than being in the moment and enjoying it, something’s not right.

Your experiences and special moments are for you and your loved ones, so put the phone away and don’t worry about how many ‘likes’ or followers you have. I recently went on a hike and left my phone in the car. It was so liberating. This was in Sweden, so the views were beyond gorgeous, but the moment was only for me and the person I was with.

Get your finances in order

If you haven’t already started, now is the time to start thinking about your financial future. This means reducing your debts and starting to save for an emergency fund. It’s never too early to be prepared!

Don’t panic about all the money you need to save over the next two decades, just start considering a plan now that you’re 30. We all have to start somewhere!

Focus on the beauty inside

The most attractive people are not those who spend hours in front of the mirror, it’s those who radiate happiness and self-love from within. Be kinder to yourself about your appearance and what you perceive to be flaws and learn to see the beauty within.

Become a master at what you do, or find a new passion

If you have been dabbling in a hobby for some time, now is the time to take it to the next level and sharpen your skills. If you haven’t found a passion in life, you’re never too old to start. Why not learn a new language, try painting or take up a musical instrument? Take a look at Dawkes clarinet selection to get started.

I personally decided to dive deep into the Latin dance scene and I dance salsa, bachata, and merengue almost daily.

Nourish your body

Forget pricey creams and make-up and stop yo-yo dieting and start nourishing your body with natural beauty products and a balanced diet. Try to reduce your alcohol intake by cutting it from weeknights or taking every other weekend off. Your brain, liver, and skin will be thankful.

Find an exercise which you enjoy and can stick to 3-5 times a week to keep your body moving and healthy. Some ideas are spinning, yoga, and even walking

Attend regular health checks

Many of the most serious health issues we face can be tackled if they are detected early on, so don’t skip your annual health check-ups and dentist appointments, even if you feel fine. If you’ve been on medication such as birth control or anti-depressants, consider going back to the doctor for a re-evaluation to make sure you’re on the best possible treatment.

Surround yourself with positive relationships

Don’t be afraid to end relationships with friends, partners or even family members who negatively affect your health and happiness. Being around healthy and happy people will have a contagious effect on your wellbeing and will provide much more wholesome relationships.

So Happy 30th Birthday, Chica. Now go out there and live your best life!

xoxo,
