All-Natural Beauty: 6 Ways to Avoid Chemicals

Posted January 27, 2014 by in Beauty

Do you put harmful chemicals on your skin everyday? Look at the ingredient list on some of your favorite beauty products. If you don’t know what something is, it’s most likely a chemical.

Don’t worry! We’re not telling you to throw away your favorite mascara or lotion, just consider making a few changes to reduce the amount of chemicals you use every day (you’ll save money too). Below are 6 items that are good for both your sex-appeal and the earth.

1. Deep Conditioner

The next time your tresses are dry, head to the kitchen before you head to the drugstore. Simply add a few drops of olive oil to your current conditioner.

For extra conditioning, leave mixture on for about 10 minutes before you rinse.

2. Lotion

So many lotions are filled to the brim with chemicals, with only one or two ingredients that actually moisturize. Treat your skin better by trading that lotion for coconut oil! It’ll dissolve into your skin without leaving a greasy residue and you’ll spend the rest of the day smelling like a Danish butter cookie — yum!

3. Eye Makeup Remover

That winged eyeliner that takes you forever to apply in the A.M. is just as annoying to get off. Am I right?

Stop with the towelettes and oil-free removers every night and trade it in for grape seed oil. It’ll take off your eyeliner and mascara in one swipe. Grape seed also has a bunch of anti-aging properties!

Other great uses for grape seed oil include: cuticle softener, moisturizer, scar fader and massage oil.

We’re currently loving the grape seed oil from Merlot; It’s 100% natural and has just a subtle scent.

4. Hair Clarifier

If you put a bunch of products on your hair day in and day out, it’s bound to get a tad dull eventually. Again, avoid the drugstore and head to the kitchen. Put some of your white or apple cider vinegar into a spray bottle, spray your dry hair with it, wait 10 minutes, and then shower. To avoid smelling like a salad, shampoo and condition as usual.

5. Lip Exfoliator

6. Lip Stain

Beet juice! That stuff stains like a bitch. Your end result will be sassy berry lips that are kissable! To avoid smelling like a juice bar, add a scented lip balm over it.
