Beard Care Routine for a Perfectly Groomed Style

Posted June 30, 2023 by in Beauty

When you grow a beard you have to ensure you have a good routine. It doesn’t have to be extreme; you can create a grooming regime that works and doesn’t take long.

If you want to turn heads or have others ask how you get such a well-groomed style, here are some helpful steps you can take at home to make your beard look amazing, without taking too much time.

Beard Brushing and Combing

Brushing or combing your beard hair is the first step to take before doing any washing, styling, or adding of products. Many beard brushes out there work to smooth out the hair and bring out any dry skin (dandruff).

When you brush or comb, go gently and slowly against the grain. You can even do some brushing in round, circular motions to stimulate the hair follicles, which can help grow out your beard.

Shampoo and Condition Your Beard

Washing your beard is important; if you don’t wash your beard on a regular basis, you’re prone to more irritated skin. Unlike hair on your head too, you tend to touch your beard far more often, so there are a lot of germs, pieces of food, etc. that contribute to making your beard less appealing and smelly.

Shampooing your beard hair is an easy process and it doesn’t have to be done every day. To keep your beard clean and fresh, it’s best to wash it at least a couple of times each week.

Conditioner isn’t always necessary. But perhaps your hair is more prone to being frizzy or fluffy after you wash. Or if your beard hair gets very tangled, a conditioner can be helpful to make your hair more manageable.

Beard Trimming and Shaving

Now comes the fun part – beard trimming! Make sure you trim your neckline and remove the scruffy hair. Neckline hair makes your beard look more well kept. Trimming does the same, and if you shave with a razor, it can give you some nice clean lines.

Depending on your beard style, this could take a bit of time, especially if you’re a beginner. Prepare your hair as you would for a shave, and just don’t use as much cream or gel so that you can be sure to see the lines underneath. Make sure you don’t rush and give yourself plenty of time to trim and shave your beard so you can make it look exactly how you want.

When  you trim, make sure you do it when the hair is long enough and more than stubble. If you have a longer beard, you should be sure to continually trim the ends to keep the appearance neat and tidy.

Beard Wax, Oil and Balms

Next you can work on getting your desired style. There are many organic products you can use, such as some mens natural beard wax that work into the hair and allow you to achieve your perfect look.

Beard oils tend to add moisture, which can be great if your skin is more dry. Less oil is ideal; start with just a small amount and then work your way up to the correct amount of product you’ll need.

Beard balms and waxes give you more of the ability to shape your hair so that it holds. The same rule of using less of the product goes here. Just be sure whatever natural products you use they don’t irritate the skin or make your hair look too greasy.

You may want a beard comb to help with the shaping and styling of your hair. It’s an excellent tool in your beard maintenance for styling and preventing tangles.

More Beard Care Tips

Those simple steps should be able to help you achieve a more perfectly groomed style for your beard. And many of the steps you don’t have to do every single day, making it take almost no time at all.

Some other steps to consider when incorporating your beard care include the following:

  • Don’t touch, pull or twist your beard very much. The more you mess with the hair, you’re just contributing to make it look more messy and less groomed.
  • Don’t overbrush the hair. Unfortunately if you brush and comb your beard too much it can irritate your skin or even pull the hair and give you patches.
  • Don’t blow dry your beard. The hot air can lead your skin to dry out more and give you beadruff, and you’ll end up with split ends far more often. Let your beard air dry and only help it along with some pats with a towel.

It can also be helpful to keep your face clean and moisturized every day. Keeping your lips hydrated is another great way to help ensure the areas around your beard attribute to your overall look.
