My boyfriend was asked to film Tara McPherson’s gallery/store opening in Williamsburg, Brooklyn yesterday and I was happy to go and help. It was a spectacular event with lots of free cotton candy (Her store is called “The Cotton Candy Machine”). The show featured 100 artist’s work for only $100 dollars a piece. The line went down the block where people waited for hours just to take a peak and perhaps buy some art.
I always see my friends buying “art” at Urban Outfitters for around $80 bucks. Why the hell would you do that? Why not buy an actual artist’s work for just $20 more? A piece that wasn’t made by a machine in China. I know $100 dollars is pricey but it’s a timeless piece you can have forever. Most of the art from this exhibition is sold, but Tara McPherson has tons of prints for sale between $10-$20 . Don’t live in or near NYC? Don’t worry! She now has an online store.
