Many or even most of us can identify with the dream of quitting your day job, working from home or making money in some other way. Making money online is one way that many strive to do, and the obvious question is, can it be done, and, if so, to what extent? Is it only possible as a way of making a little bit of extra cash on the side or are you able to make a full and decent living from working online?

The answer, as with many things, is it all depends. On what though? Well, what your skills and experience are, and what you can do.

The Two Types Of Online Earning

We can quite easily divide the methods of making money online into two distinct and separate categories. The first is working in a professional role, using skills and experience to make money just as you would with any other job, with the only exception being that you are not traveling into the office to perform your job role.

The other type of making money online is for performing online tasks that are not professional roles and these are often doing things you might do anyway online, such as shopping games, etc. The following are a few examples of each of these types of earnings and how you might earn with them.

Gambling

This is one to be careful with, many people do make money online through gambling and with the prevalence of online casinos and other betting sites, it is easier than ever to make, and to lose money online gambling.

If it’s pure gambling then there are no guarantees as it’s not in your control, betting on sports in the normal way or games of pure chance you cannot seriously hope to make a regular profit, however if you use a system to stack the odds in your favor then it’s more realistic that this can be achieved, read this Beating Betting’s guide to see how it can be done.

Freelance Work In Creative Fields

Many creative pursuits are increasingly using freelancers to fulfill their temporary needs as opposed to having a full complement of staff that may be too large in the quiet times, costing money, and too small in the busy periods. Using freelancers gives them a much more flexible approach to operations. So if you are skilled in something like writing, design or programming then you can make money online from home and pretty much set your own schedule.

You will need some self-promotion skills as well as your core skills as you will need to keep on top of finding work and managing your own schedule.

Shopping, Surveys Etc.

There are many alternative ways to make some money online. You can be paid to take surveys, giving your opinion on matters on anything from what products you use to social or political opinions. You can also be paid simply to search the web, there are add-ons you can add to your browser directly on your laptop or phone and you are simply paid to click on sponsored search results, or there are paid mobile games that offer cash rewards for playing or testing new games.

These ways of making money can vary in their effectiveness and it’s a judgement call for yourself as to whether or not it’s worthwhile the amount of time you put into it.

Start Your Own Business

Why not start a home business? There are so many ways of making your own money online. Popular ways of doing this include creating and selling craft or creative products. You could also offer teaching or tutoring services if you have expertise that can be exploited.

Be sure to get yourself acquainted with all the relevant tax and business laws to avoid being the unwanted recipient of fines or charges for non-compliance.

So What’s The Verdict?

Basically, it all depends on you, your dedication, and your level of skills. You should carefully research and plan how any way of making money is likely to pan out for you? What are the risks and what are the potential rewards? You need to make the decision based on your personal needs and circumstances, an acceptable level of income may be fine for some people but be totally below requirements for others.

It may be a good idea to dip your toes in the water and try it part-time first before quitting your job immediately.
