If you have your heart set on an elegant, chic wedding but are limited when it comes to your budget, there are some ways you can overcome this and still create the wedding of your dreams. There are lots of ways to make the most of your money and ensure that you don’t compromise on any aspect of your special day.
The average wedding within the UK costs around £32k however don’t let this put you off if your budget is only a fraction of this. You can still create the most amazing day on a budget. We have put together some of our top tips to help you organise the wedding of your dreams. If you are working to a really tight budget it’s worth creating a spreadsheet so that you can track every payment you make. This will help to ensure that you don’t overspend and also allows you to keep track and see how much of your budget you have left.
One of the biggest expenses you will make will be on your venue, so it’s important to make sure that you don’t overspend. There are lots of budget venues out there and it’s also worth keeping an eye on offers that venues may be running. You may be able to opt for a midweek wedding and save yourself thousands.
Depending on how tight your budget is, you could look at small hotels or even consider looking at pub wedding venues. A lot of these smaller venues will be a lot cheaper to hire than a grand venue and will be more likely to be able to offer you a weekend date at a more affordable rate. If the venue is quite plain, such as a village hall, don’t let this put you off. The money you save yourself on venue hire can be put towards venue decoration and lighting.
You don’t need to be a creative genius to create something simple yet elegant for your wedding day. There are lots of simple ways to decorate your venue on a budget that you can do easily yourself. Drapes are a great way to make your venue look elegant and are really simple to do. Lighting is something that can really change the ambience of your venue, simple uplighters or even candles in lanterns will give an elegant atmosphere.
Consider Your Guests Numbers
If you are on a really tight budget you may want to consider having a smaller number of guests attend. This will save you a lot of money especially when it comes to choosing the venue size and also looking at menu options. A lot of smaller hotel venues will have packages and deals they can offer you, so that you can get your venue hire, meals and drinks all included in one price.
Second Hand Clothing
A great way to save yourselves a lot of money is to look at buying second hand dresses or suits. A lot of people only wear their wedding dress for one day, so if you are tight on money there’s not much point spending thousands on an outfit that will only be worn once. If you look around there are lots of charity shops that have vintage wedding dresses, which would be ideal if you are looking for an elegant, older style dress.
If you prefer not to buy there is also the option to hire a dress and suits for the day. You will just need to make sure that you take care of them so that you get your deposit money back. This is a great way to wear an elegant, designer dress but for a fraction of the price. Also don’t forget many high street shops have some great wedding dresses with prices from as low as £30. Keep an eye on sales in retail shops too as you may be able to pick up some beautiful wedding shoes as well.
If you are having more than one bridesmaid and can’t afford to pay for their dresses you could always ask them if they wouldn’t mind paying for their own dresses, or even get them to wear dresses they already have, and just make sure that they all match in terms of the colour choice.
DIY Hair and Makeup
If you don’t have the budget to stretch to a professional hair and makeup artist for your wedding day, you could choose to do this yourself which would only cost you the price of the makeup you buy. There are loads of tutorials on YouTube for wedding makeup ideas, or if you have a friend who is good at this, you could ask them to help you and offer them a small amount to do this.
A great way to save yourself some money on your wedding photographs is to look at hiring a student photographer. They won’t be as experienced as professional photographers; however you could choose to hire them just for the ceremony, rather than the whole day.
Many of your guests will be taking photos themselves during the day, so you could ask them to send you the photos or even ask a friend who is a keen photographer if they would like to be your photographer, again you could offer to give them a small amount to do this.
