As you already know, we at Broke & Chic are huge fans of buying secondhand clothing, shoes and accessories. It’s a great way to expand your wardrobe without breaking the bank. The most important thing to remember when you’re buying secondhand is to clean and disinfect everything!
Before you wear or use any of your thrifted treasures, you want to be sure to take the necessary precautions to avoid germs. You should never assume it has already been done. When you’re buying something used that’s going to come in contact with your skin, your best friends should be laundry detergent sheets, detergent, hot water, disinfectant wipes and rubbing alcohol.
Here are a few tips for cleaning your secondhand items before showing them off:
Clothing
– Wash all non-delicate clothing in hot water and dry on high
-Take delicate items to the dry-cleaner
Shoes & Accessories
-Wipe the insides of shoes with Clorox wipes
-Wipe the outside and inside of purses, clutches and wallets with Clorox wipes as well.
Jewelry
-Clean all jewelry, including earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings with rubbing alcohol
