Fall’s Hottest Trends and How to Wear Them

Posted October 8, 2013 by in Trends

Every fall, old trends are re-imagined and new ones are created. Sometimes, these trends can be intimidating, but seeing them in action can help you get over your fears. Below are this seasons most popular trends and how to wear them — as modeled by our lovely contributor, Madison.

1. Band Tees

This past year, it girls such as Cara Delevingne and Alexa Chung have been spotted wearing band tees — sometimes with jeans, and sometimes with a blazer and a cute skirt. Either way, band tees are a staple that never goes out of style, the older and more worn out looking the better.

  • Body-con Skirt: $7.80 via Forever 21
  • Boots: $35 via Target
  • Jean Jacket: $30 via H&M

Borrow your boyfriend’s, find your old one from high school, or simply buy a new one that shows off your music taste. Above, Madison paired her band tee with a simple body con skirt, a jean jacket and black boots. Her outfit is the perfect mix of vintage rock n’ roll and modern.

2. Leather

Leather can take any outfit from casual to cool, but out of all this season’s trends, leather is the most intimidating. But don’t worry — it’s easier to pull off than you think. If you’re trying to avoid the “tough biker chick” look, make sure the rest of your outfit is extra feminine.

Madison paired her faux-leather pants with a semi sheer purple blouse. Instead of looking like a biker, she looks confident and girly with the right amount of edge. Worried about going overboard? Avoid pairing leather with bright colors and heavy patterns.

3. 90’s Revival

It’s no secret; the 90’s are back! Instead of reaching for your summer favorite: the crop top, wear a baby doll or smock dress instead. To give it more of a 90’s feel, wear combat or lace-up boots, a back pack and a friendship bracelet or mood ring — just avoid chokers and butterfly clips.

4. Statement Necklaces

A statement necklace will add some glam to your overall look. Madison wore her’s with a simple black and white dress to add color. She loves how statement necklaces look with high-necked dresses and shirts. Consider wearing a statement necklace the next time you’re wearing something simple — your chambray shirt and black pants perhaps?

5. Fancy Sweatshirts

Black and white never goes out of style! Give it a try by layering a black vest or blazer over your favorite black and white dress. Finish off the look with black or white wedges. To make it even more intense, add a black and white bag!
