For many, the recipe for a beautiful face and skin lies in expensive cosmetics and beauty products. However, beauty gurus like acclaimed author Elizabeth TenHouten have discovered that the secret to radiant, glowing skin can be as simple as consuming the best natural ingredients, either topically or through a delicious, healthy diet. Elizabeth explores these subjects in her books “Cooking Well: Beautiful Skin” and “Natural Beauty.” These books are the product of Elizabeth’s lifelong odyssey to understand the critical role that nutrition and rejuvenating ingredients found in nature play in cultivating a smooth, glowing complexion that reflects a person’s inner beauty.

For her first book, “Cooking Well: Beautiful Skin,” she found inspiration in the unlikeliest of places. After seeing a billboard advertising a pomegranate juice drink high in antioxidants, she was inspired to research how antioxidant foods affect the quality of a person’s skin. Many people are likely unaware of antioxidants’ importance in the field of skincare. These miracle molecules can protect the skin from sun damage, prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging, brighten skin tone, and help heal acne breakouts. Feeling the spark of creativity, Elizabeth went to the drawing board and envisioned food recipes rich in antioxidants that would also be enjoyable to cook and consume. She tried out the recipes in her own kitchen, testing each of them to see if they met the mark. She came up with over 75 antioxidant-rich recipes for this book, including treats such as Antioxidant Salmon, Pomegranate Tuna, and even desserts such as the coconut-rich Seductive Sorbet.

Her second book, the international bestseller “Natural Beauty,” took the same principle of using natural ingredients prepared in a regular home kitchen and applied it to creating homemade beauty products, such as facial masks, cleansing scrubs, and hair treatments. For this book, Elizabeth was inspired both by popular spa treatments and her international travels, during which she found exotic natural ingredients such as lavender honey from Spain and healing mud and body masks from the Dead Sea in Israel. Her “Beauty Bytes” in the book include a foot soak made from grapefruit essential oils and a sugar and honey concoction for luscious lips.

After publishing two popular beauty books and cementing her place as a highly sought-after beauty expert, Elizabeth went on to pursue her dream of starting her own skincare line. In 2015, she began laying the foundation for her line of beauty products by working with Benchmark, one of the top cosmetic chemistry companies in the world at the time.

After some intensive collaboration in the lab, they discovered the secret ingredient that would create the perfect serum: a plant extract from the South of France. In 2016, Elizabeth’s dream business, BeautyRich Skincare, officially launched. Several users observed marked improvements in their skin in as little as two weeks, and Elizabeth even starred in a late-night infomercial for the product airing on the Lifetime television network.

BeautyRich Skincare ended operations in 2018, but Elizabeth continues to share her knowledge as a beauty expert with people all over the world. She often shares her beauty tips as a panelist and guest speaker at different events. Her books continue to enrich the lives of many looking for answers about how to refresh and reinvigorate their skin, face, and hair.
