Shopping on websites such as Amazon and Target offers a great convenience for us all. There is often next-day shipping, and they offer a wide variety of products, so it’s a one-stop-shop. However, it would do the world a lot of good if we limited our shopping at those retailers and opt for shopping local as often as possible.
Many small-businesses have sadly not survived this pandemic. According to Yelp, 60% of business closures due to the coronavirus pandemic are now permanent. That number is beyond devastating, and I’m sure none of us want to live in a world where small businesses don’t exist—but that is exactly where we’re going.
While many businesses have been forced to shut down, Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, has become even richer, despite already being the world’s richest man. He is set to be the world’s first trillionaire by 2026, and this pandemic has accelerated that reality.
So this holiday season, let’s spend our money in ways that will support local businesses when possible. Since shopping in-person this year isn’t the wisest decision, many of us are relying on the internet, but there are ways to shop local—even online. That is possible with e-commerce websites like Etsy.
If you’ve never shopped on Etsy, you’re truly missing out. On Etsy, you can find thousands of items handmade by people around the world. From furniture and home decor items to bath bombs and handmade soap, Etsy has it all.
