The healthcare industry is a profitable one. There’s no denying that working in medicine can be an effective way of earning a sizable living. If you are interested in getting a job in healthcare then you will need qualifications first. No medical institution or healthcare center will employ under qualified individuals; it is too dangerous for them to do this. Degrees are therefore a requirement. It is common for people to avoid studying and getting degrees because they do not want to go to college. Did you know you can study from the comfort of your own home, however? Here are a few medical degrees you can get at home:
Not everybody who works in healthcare is a doctor, or nurse or even works directly with patients. Some people work behind the scenes, completing paperwork and administrative tasks. It is these individuals that keep the healthcare industry going. Without people to complete paperwork and admin doctors and nurses would not be able to treat patients; it’s also medical assistants that are usually responsible for sending over prescriptions and ensuring patients get their medication on time.
If you are interested in becoming a medical assistant, one of the healthcare industry’s unsung heroes, then you can study from home. All that’s required to become a medical assistant is an associate degree. You can take an online medical assistant program to get this. You can get higher-level qualifications.
While higher-level qualifications are not a requirement they can make you more attractive to employers and increase your chances of securing a job. In terms of career progression, they can help you to climb the ladder and secure employment as a senior medical assistant. Naturally, senior assistants earn more than junior or standard ones do.
Healthcare Admin
Another important role in healthcare that’s overlooked by the average person is that of the healthcare administrator. These individuals are responsible for the handling of patient complaints, employee onboarding and sometimes even internal disciplinary action. Becoming a healthcare administrator is a little more difficult than a medical assistant because healthcare admins handle a lot of sensitive data; any role involving employee and patient data requires extensive training in data handling and management. Improper management of data can be a detriment to healthcare organizations leaving them open to fraud and theft.
You can study to become a healthcare admin from the comfort of your own home. Like medical assistants, the only degrees required are at the associate level. You do not need anything higher although applying for something higher can increase your chances of getting higher-paying jobs. If you just want to get your foot in the door and salary is not of major concern to you then rather than focusing on getting a master’s degree just take an associate course. An associate course is still sufficient for getting an entry-level clerk job. You will also need to take a few additional data management courses.
Medical Billing
In the United States healthcare is not free. While parts of Europe do offer nationalized healthcare it’s not something that has ever been considered in America. The American healthcare system works well. In fact, it is the best in the world. Due to the fact that the average person does not earn enough to pay for healthcare outright people get health insurance. If you know anything about insurance, you will know that making a claim for it can be challenging. Insurance companies make it difficult to claim money from them. As such, special workers are needed so that healthcare facilities and centers can seek payment from their patients’ insurance companies. Medical billing professionals are the people responsible for pursuing those payments.
Training to become a medical billing professional is not something you have to go to college for, you can do it from home. Like with the other degrees mentioned here in this post so far you do not need a qualification over the level of associate unless you really want to boost your chances of getting a good job; taking a low-level course can still be enough to get a good job however, as you can just work your way up from an entry-level position to a senior one.
Assistant Nurse
Becoming an assistant nurse is another good way of getting your foot in the door as a healthcare worker. However, unlike the other qualifications and positions listed here so far a lot of training has to go into becoming a nurse, assistant or not. This is because nurses deal directly with patients. While it is entirely possible to take nursing degrees online many experts would recommend attending an actual nursing college so you get more experience. That being said, you may be able to get an assistant nursing job at a hospital or doctor’s surgery under the proviso that you study at the same time. To that end, if you have been able to secure a job then find an online course. An online course will be easier for you to accommodate while working.
Bear in mind that nurses work a lot and are in direct contact with patients, meaning they are at risk of contracting viral illnesses and bacterial infections. The latter positions are more or less risk-free as they work in offices and do not see patients directly. If you are apprehensive about working with patients on a one-on-one basis then nursing isn’t for you.
Junior Pharmacist
Pharmacists can earn a lot of money. You do not have to go to university to become one despite what many people think. The good thing about becoming a pharmacist is that it then makes it possible for you to open your own business, as a pharmacist. While you are studying it’s worth applying for work as a pharmacology assistant at an established pharmacy in your area. Pharmacists are responsible for selling drugs to the public. You can also become a medical billing assistant working at a pharmacy. Training as a pharmacist can be complex as it involves very complicated medicinal study. At the same time, it is a very rewarding process and can result in you building a profitable career for yourself.
The healthcare industry is a fantastic place to turn if you’re looking for stable employment and a sizable salary. You do not have to go to medical college, you can study from home. A degree will be necessary no matter what line of work you are pursuing, however. Studying from home is much more flexible than attending college is.
