They Weren’t Socialized As A Pup

If you have a dog that is acting out of turn, for instance constantly barking at people walking past or jumping up at visitors then it may be due to lack of training. Every dog, no matter the breed, needs some form of training. This is just like teaching a child right from wrong, dogs need that as well. If you are not sure how to go about teaching an older dog basic commands then why not look into dog boarding that incorporates a training scheme. Ever heard the saying, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Well, dog trainers don’t believe that. Your dog will come back brand new, having learned how to behave properly.

They’re In Pain

One of the most common reasons why a dog will act out and become more aggressive is if they are in pain. Pain anywhere that is severe enough will lead to increased levels of aggression. Particularly, if you indirectly make the pain worse. For instance, you might touch their paw. If this has been injured, a dog might shy away. However, some will act defensively and may snarl or even bite. You’ll need to check whether your dog has been injured. It’s possible that they require medication or even surgery to fix an issue that is causing them discomfort.

They’re Not Getting Enough Attention

A dog is a highly sociable animal. Most love human interaction and will want attention from their owner. This is why it’s important to ensure that you have enough time for a pet. Some dog breeds are more independent than others but most will require daily play and exercise to maintain a happy and affable personality. If you find that they are being disruptive or even destructive, then you might want to try playing with them more. You should also avoid leaving them by themselves for long periods as dogs can get lonely, anxious and even depressed overtime.

They Have A Sensory Issue

It’s possible that your dog’s behavior has suddenly shifted or changed. Alternatively, you might have noticed a gradual difference in their behavior over several months. If this is the case, then it’s possible that your dog is experiencing a sensory issue. This can cause them to become more aggressive or fearful. Don’t forget, your dog won’t understand what is happening. But they might be struggling to see or hear. This can be terrifying for an animal and will cause a change in behavior. If you suspect this, you should get them checked out at a vet.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key reasons for your dog’s change in behavior. Remember, a dog’s behavior will never change for no reason. It will always be a sign of an issue. You just need to figure out what that issue is. If your dog is old, they may even be experiencing dementia and could be struggling to remember who you are to them.
