Many people have bad habits. Bad habits can be all kinds of different things, from eating bad foods to being lazy. Your bad habit could be biting your nails, smoking, or drinking too much. It could be anything that doesn’t serve you in the way that it should.
You should feel positive and good about yourself the majority of the time. All the time, if possible! Do you feel good when you’re lying around not getting any work done, or guilty? Do you feel good when you smoke a cigarette, or worry about what you’re doing to your body? It’s up to you and you alone to quit your bad habits. Here are some things you must do if you want to stop:
Come Up With Compelling Reasons to Quit
You need compelling reasons to quit any bad habit. These reasons should be things that you can focus on when you’re feeling like you want to quit quitting. For instance, maybe you want to quit smoking to see your grandchildren grow up. Maybe you want to stop drinking to live a happier life. Think of all of the ways in which your bad habits aren’t serving you and turn them into compelling reasons to quit.
Find a Support Network
A support network can help to make you feel good and keep you on track when you need it. You can find a support network in all kinds of places, both online and offline. They could be your friends and family, or even a group of people going through the same thing as you.
Celebrate Your Achievements
When you reach a milestone, celebrate it. Maybe you’ve been smoke free for a week. Treat yourself to a salon treatment, or something else you enjoy. Try not to replace it with another bad habit, like a bottle of wine or a huge slab of cake.
Get in the Right Mindset
Your mindset is the most important thing when you’re trying to quit your bad habits. You need to think positively, and know in your heart that you CAN do it. Of course you can. People have done it before and they will do it again. You are strong willed, and much stronger than this habit. All it takes is for you to believe that you can do it and you will do it!
Find Resources to Help You
There are going to be all kinds of resources out there that can help you to quit. Articles online, books, groups, and even tools. If you’re quitting smoking, minty vapes can be a good tool to help you quit. If your vice is junkfood, joining a group could help you. Make sure you find tools to help you cope effectively.
Don’t Beat Yourself Up Too Much
There may come a time on your journey you fall off the wagon just a little bit. Not necessarily, but it does happen. If you beat yourself up about this too much, you might find that you end up with the ‘screw it’ mindset and go completely off track. Don’t do it to yourself! Accept what has happened and continue trying to do your best.
