Some people are super into sports and let them control their lives, while others aren’t bothered in the slightest. It’s easy to be put off sports due to how much negative press revolves around things like angry fans and stuff like that. However, getting into sports could be extremely beneficial for both your physical and mental wellbeing.

Well, it’s definitely beneficial from a mental standpoint as you feel happy and included when you’re out enjoying sports with friends and fellow fans. Being socially active is shown to help give your mental health a boost as it helps you smile, laugh, and generally feel good. You could argue a social life helps you physically as it means you might be more active. You may spend more time walking around with fellow fans instead of lazing around all day.

Sport is excellent at bringing people together and forming communities. If you are a sports fan, you can instantly find wider communities to become a part of. Even on social media sites like Twitter, you find like-minded people who talk about your sport all the time. It’s a chance to interact with them and build friendships as you become part of a community together. Online forums are also similar, and the friendships you make online can translate to the real world if you all meet up. 

From the perspective of playing sports, being part of a team makes you feel so special and accepted. It is literally like a little community that you have together, and it’s so beneficial for your mental health. Knowing that you have friends and people to turn to whenever you need support is so advantageous. It means you never feel alone, which is always good for your mental wellbeing.

Those of you that suffer from mental health problems will know that things are tough when you’re stuck inside your head.
