How to Find Your Fitness Passion

Posted May 22, 2023 by in Health + Fitness

We all need to make a big effort to get fitter and healthier in life – it will help us to live longer, but it will also mean that longer life is healthier and happier. You’ll be able to do more and experience more when you are fit and well.

The problem some people have is that they find doing exercise boring or unpleasant. This can mean they put it off or don’t do it at all, which will harm your health. This is why it’s great to find your fitness passion. Once you have found what makes you happy, you can exercise more and enjoy good health. Read on to find out how to find your own fitness passion.

Think About Why

One good way to find your fitness passion is to think about why you want to get fit in the first place. Some exercise is great for losing weight, for example. Some are good for building muscle. Some movements are perfect after an accident to help you regain mobility.

When you know why you want to get fit and what your specific goals are, you’ll be able to narrow down your choices much more easily and choose something that is going to help you reach your goals.

Speak To People

There are so many different ways to exercise that you won’t know about all of them, and you certainly won’t have all the information you need for the ones you do know about. This could be the reason why you don’t think sport or exercise is the right thing for you; you just don’t have all the facts. In this case, speak to the people around you and ask them where their passions lie when it comes to getting fit. Not all will have an answer, but some definitely will, and they will give you some ideas about where to start looking for your own fitness passion.

It might also be that you are looking to exercise to try to reduce stress in your life. Talking to people can help here too. Talking about problems is always helpful, not just to release your emotions but to think through the problems and perhaps come up with solutions or receive advice. For instance, you might be stressed by external factors like the fact that the US abortion laws have changed to make it harder for women to get the help they need. Even if this doesn’t directly affect you currently, it can be helpful to know that there are abortion clinics in other countries where women can get help and that there is progress elsewhere in the world.

Think About Your Health

The point of exercise is to get healthy, as we’ve discussed, but you do need to consider the state of your health right now before you can find something that you enjoy and that will give you the results you want.

It might be that you love the idea of running marathons, but if your health won’t allow for that, it will be demotivating more than helpful. It might be that swimming, a much more low-impact sport, is the right thing to do first. Then, when your health improves, you can move on to other things.

This can seem like a bit of a compromise, but it will be worth it. If the sport or exercise you’re passionate about needs a certain level of fitness, you’ll be motivated to reach that level and then move forward.
