When summertime hits it is usually bug and pest season. While the weather may be beautiful, it brings bugs out of hiding. However, there are ways to keep your home bug free throughout the season.

There are many natural ingredients that you may have lying around your home that can help to alleviate the problem. Take a look at some of the things you can do to help rid your home of bugs during the summer.

Use Vinegar

If you notice that ants keep coming back into your kitchen or any other area of your home even though you have removed anything that could be attracting them, using some white vinegar is a great solution to the problem.

When ants come into your home they leave pheromones behind that make a trail for other ants. Even if you get rid of the group of ants that were causing the problem, other ants can still smell the pheromones and come back into your home.

The best way to stop this from happening is to destroy the pheromones that they have left behind. Spray vinegar on the areas where you suspect that ants have left pheromones and this will help to solve the problem.

Try Citrus

After you eat citrus fruits, don’t throw away the peel. Using citrus peel is a very effective way of getting rid of mosquitoes, ants, and spiders. You can rub these peels in areas where you have problems with insects.

Insects like to come into homes via window sills and doorways. If you have this problem you can go ahead and rub your citrus peels on these areas to keep these pests out. You can even rub the citrus peel on furniture that pests like to crawl on. This is easy to do and it will not damage your furniture.

Sprinkle Cinnamon

If you have some cinnamon powder you can sprinkle this on the entrances of your home and your window sills to keep bugs out. Making a line of cinnamon near your doorway practically ensures that ants will not cross over it.

However, it is not only ants that are repelled by cinnamon. You can also scare away cockroaches, spiders, wasps, mosquitoes, and even wasps by sprinkling cinnamon in strategic places.

Sprinkle cinnamon in your pantry as well to keep ants and roaches away from your sweet treats and foods.

While natural methods are often very effective at getting rid of bugs and pests in your home throughout the summer if you have destructive pests such as termites you may want to consider getting termite inspections and control services to assist you if things start becoming more than you can handle.

Enjoy Your Summer

Summer is a time to enjoy beautiful weather and spend time with your family and friends while basking in the sunshine. However, bugs can make it difficult for you to enjoy your home.

With the natural solutions presented here, you should be able to get rid of most pests. If things get too far out of your control then you can call in professionals to do the job for you.
