Why Does My Faucet Drip After I Turn it Off?
In some cases, it is found that a kitchen faucet drips after turning it off. Do you know why it happens to your kitchen faucet? Using the faucet for a long time might cause the issue. You know that everything has its wear and tear. The faucet valve is used to control the on/off, temperature control, and volume.
The valve of the kitchen faucet corrodes after using it for a long time. Therefore, water will drip out even if you turn the valve off. If you experience the problem of dripping water even after turning it off, you can replace it or you can remove it and use thread tape to prevent water from dripping out.
Replacing a Kitchen Faucet
In two ways, you can replace your kitchen faucet. Yes, you can do it yourself (DIY) or you can hire an expert plumber so that he can do the same thing for you but professionally. They have more experience than you because they do it as their occupation. If you can do it yourself, you can save your hard-earned money and sharpen your how-to knowledge.
On the other hand, you need to spend your money if you hire someone professional. Though money is needed, it will be fixed and replaced professionally without having any issues. However, I am going to tell you all the necessary steps and things that I followed to replace my kitchen faucet.
Things You Need to Have For the Process
To save valuable time and effort, you should make the arrangement of the necessary things and tools you will need. Otherwise, you might have to stop at any step and go shopping for the absent things, right? Anyway, here are the things and tools you should arrange.
- Adjustable wrench
- Pipe wrench
- Joint pliers
- Tube cutter
- New faucet
- Shut-off valves
As you have already arranged everything you need to start the process, you are almost ready to begin. Before you begin, make sure you have worn safety hand gloves so that your hands keep safe during the process.
Step One: Removing Old Faucet
It will be better to shut off the circuit breaker of your power line before you start disconnecting the garbage disposer. Otherwise, you might harm yourself badly due to the connection of the power line. Also, you have to remove the line of the dishwasher. Using a hammer, you can remove the disposer loosening the retaining ring.
Now you might remove all the buckets, vases, sink, and cleansers, right? It is time to lie down under and try to get access to the faucet. If you can find it and have access to it, you should now drain the sinks. If you have chrome-plated lines, chances are they are corroded with the pipe wrench. Plastic drain parts are better in the sense that you can reuse them and don’t need to purchase new ones.
Step Two: Removing the Garbage Disposal
It is not as easy as you think to remove the garbage disposal due to its weight. You can avail of garbage disposal plumbing services for the removal. First, you have to unplug it and then carefully pull it out. You can still keep the electric connection while setting the garbage disposer aside.
Step Three: Removing the Nuts
Removing the nuts from the sink and faucet might be a difficult task for you. Sometimes, it is more difficult and you might not be able to remove them because of corrosion. In this case, you should pour some penetrating oil to soak them so that you can easily remove them.
Step Four: Installing the New Faucet
Now you have reached the final step and you have to install your new kitchen faucet. Before you go to install the faucet, you have to take a closer look at the faucet whether you have brought the right one for your sink. In this step, following the manufacturer’s instructions carefully will help you do the entire process well.
Reconnect the lines you have removed and tighten them with your wrenches so that there is no leakage. After installing and tightening everything properly, you are almost done. But wait! Turn on the valve so that water is going through properly without dripping out. If you find any water dripping, without further delay, you should retighten every nut again. When everything is ready, your installation or replacing process should be finished.
Replacing your kitchen faucet is fun when it comes to doing the installation yourself! It enriches your experience and saves your hard-earned money. All you have to do is invest in your valuable time. You can do the replacement by a professional plumber as well.
After replacing the kitchen faucet, you must not forget to recheck all nuts you have tightened. Otherwise, water might drip out when you start using the faucet which is embarrassing. However, following all the steps I have shared with you, you can replace your kitchen faucet effortlessly and quickly.
