Lets Bring Them Back: Rain Hats

Posted April 10, 2012 by in Shopping

We’ve brought back both oxfords and high waisted pants over the past few years, why not rain hats? They’re perfect for the days you’re not quite sure it’s going to rain and don’t want to lug a heavy umbrella with you.

Back in the day, starlets such as Gene Tierney would wear them to protect their locks from the unknown conditions outside, especially in the spring.

Unfortunately, rain hats have been out of style for over 20 years. Due to this, rain hats aren’t in mass production any more and can be difficult to find. Many classic designers such as Burberry and Helen Kaminiski still have them in production, but with a large price tag attached.

Luckily, British fashion designer Cath Kidston recently came out with a line of rain hats in adorable patterns that could be apart of your wardrobe at a more reasonable price.

Since this item sold like hotcakes, they’re a bit hard to find. Just keep an eye out at places like T.J. Maxx, Marshall’s and Buffalo Exchange! Can’t wait? Follow this great tutorial from Gwen Stella of Because She Started Knitting to make your very own Cath Kidston inspired rain hat!

What are your thoughts on rain hats? Should they be the new trend of 2012? Or should these cute hats just stay in the past? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
