Posted August 4, 2021 by in Lifestyle

Do you know a lot about tech? A lot of people still aren’t educated on their pieces of technology and how you can keep it safe. You have got to look after your devices if you want them to work for you. A lot of the time if you find that there is an issue with the device, it usually comes from an issue that the owner has done.

Of course, this isn’t always the case and sometimes things really just do go wrong, but you need to know that you have done everything possible to look after your tech before you can blame it. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the things that you need to do beyond keeping it charged to look after your technology.

Make Sure You Complete Updates

First, it’s essential that you complete updates as and when they come up on your device. If your phone says it’s time for an update, there is a reason that it is trying to do so. The same is true of your laptop, desktop and really any device that you have. Operating systems release updates for quality enhancements, bug fixes and so much more, so in order to protect your device, you need to be doing this regularly. If you have automatic updates on, it should do this without you having to give permission.

However, sometimes the updates don’t work. You could be sitting there trying to update your Mac for example and it’s just not going the way that you hoped it would. If this is the case, then you need to look at the post that tells you the steps that you need to take. There is likely a way around your update problem, and getting advice is the right thing to do.

Get A Case For Your Device

In terms of looking after it physically, one of the things that you are going to need is a case for your devices. Your phone should certainly have a case on it as this is the thing that is most likely to get smashed. You are holding your phone often throughout the day, so it is a larger risk than some other devices like a laptop. However, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, and that’s why we recommend that all of your devices that can have cases, do.

Most cases are not expensive, unless you want something specific. For example, if you have decided that you want a specific kind of case that has a specific pattern on it, then this is going to cost more than your standard case. But, this is entirely up to you, as long as you have something protecting it.

Try Not To Charge It Until It’s Needed

Ideally, you don’t want to be charging your devices until it’s needed. We understand that it’s nice to see your battery levels at 100%, who doesn’t love that? But, too many people have the habit of charging their phone when it is on 80% and this simply isn’t necessary. There have been some claims that over charging your phone is dangerous and actually wears down the battery life over time.

As years go on, your battery life will naturally decrease anyway, but you don’t want to help it along in its process. If you want your tech to stay in working order for as long as physically possible, try not to charge it too often. Wait until it gets to 20% or below, and then you can start charging it again. We know, the horror! But, it’s got to be done to preserve your battery capacity.

Clean Them

Are you cleaning your devices? Do you spend time cleaning your desktop and around it? Do you ensure that you are trying to blow the dust out of the bottom of your laptop every now and then? Are you wiping your phone screen after you spill something on it? If the answer is no, then this needs to change as soon as possible. You might not think that these devices need cleaning but if you don’t do this, you could end up damaging them.

Let’s say you drop ketchup on your phone screen. It’s not a big deal, right? Right, it’s not at the time. But, if you continuously do this without wiping it off, or licking it off instead of cleaning the screen, you could risk damaging it one day. Or, if you have a laptop and you’re not trying to get any little bits of dirt or dust that you see away from it, the build-up inside could require a whole deep clean down the road.

Defend Your Device Against Viruses And Malware

Finally, you need to ensure that you are defending your devices against viruses and malware. The last thing that you want is either of these on your device as it has the power to destroy it. Not only can it massively mess up your actual device, but a lot of viruses or malware mean that the person who sent it can access everything on your computer. As such, you need anit-virus and anti-malware software as soon as possible. The quicker that you can get this, the safer your devices are going to be.

Don’t think that phones can’t get viruses, because they can. Ensure that your devices are protected in as many ways as possible, each and every one of them.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you are going to need to do to look after your tech. The thing that you need to remember is that your devices are yours to look after, so you can’t always be relying on someone else to take care of them for you. Learning to take care of your tech is important if you don’t want to be replacing it every year or so. This advice should help, we wish you luck!
