Mounting a TV on the wall is easier than you might think. All you need are a few basic tools, the right type of wall mount for your TV, and a little bit of elbow grease.
This TV wall mounts guide will take you through the simple steps required to get your new flat screen up and ready for your next movie night!
Choosing the Right Wall Mount
This is step is crucial. Without a mount specifically designed for use with your TV, it won’t work. It’s a good idea to check out some online stores for a list of wall mounts that will fit your TV. This can save you a ton of time and headaches. There are many options to consider, depending on your tv size, how much movement you want your TV to be able to have, and your budget, of course. Sometimes the best TV wall mount will not look as you expected, but it’ll work just fine within the room you want to place it. The TV is not going to let it show anyway, and you want to buy the one that fits it perfectly. Then once you’ve found a mount that will work, you’re ready for the next step in the process.
Choose a Location on the Wall
Now you’ll need to select the spot on the wall for mounting your TV. Sit in your favorite chair or couch and determine the ideal location and height. Keep in mind that positioning your TV too high can cause neck strain.
Once you’ve determined the idea location, cut out a piece of cardboard the size of the TV and affix it to the exact spot with painter’s tape.
Locate the Wall Studs
Keep in mind that you can’t just hang a TV on any random section of wall. You’ll need wall studs to support the weight.
We recommend using an electronic wall stud finder. This makes determining the precise location of studs quick and easy.
Run the locator across the top of your piece of cardboard and find the location of two studs. Mark their locations with a pencil, then drive a nail through the pencil mark to confirm that each stud is there.

Pilot Holes
Now mark the wall at the corners of the cardboard and remove it. Hold the TV mount in place on the wall and mark the top and bottom holes on each mounting arm. Be sure to use a level to confirm that the arms are even.
Place the mount aside and double check your measurements, then drill the pilot holes using your pencil markings.
Attach the Mount and Mounting Plate to the Wall
The hard work is finished at this point. Hold the mount to the wall and drill the screws to attach it in place. Then attach the mounting plate to the back of the TV.
Mount the TV to the Wall
Carefully lift the TV to attach the mounting place to the wall mount. Once in place, test that the fit is secure and that the mount properly supports the weight the TV. Now stand back and make any adjustment to the viewing angle.
