It is gorgeous out today, and all I have to say is finally. Usually May has perfect weather, as the saying goes “April showers bring May flowers”, sadly that has been a lie this year. It has been rainy and cold all month so far. I checked the weather on Sunday and saw nothing but clear skies and mild to warm temps, so I started putting those sweaters and winter jackets under the bed. Woot! I definitely won’t miss them. Now I just need to organize my makeup for the warmer weather. I already have go-to’s, but my bathroom is looking a little cray tbh.
Anyway, below are my May 2017 favorites for both makeup and skincare.
Pixi Glow Tonic – $15
This toner has been my go-to for months now. It has a cult following in the UK, but the brand, Pixi by Petra, is still pretty new in the States. It’s alcohol-free, so it won’t dry out your skin and it contains glycolic acid to gently exfoliate the skin; don’t worry, it’s safe for daily use. There is also aloe for moisture. I usually follow it with either the Glow Serum (also from Pixi) or the Overnight Recovery Serum from Nourish Organic. Best part? It’s only $15 for the 3.4 oz at Target! That size lasts me about three months.
Nuance Palette in Neutral Expressions by Salma Hayek – $13.99 at CVS
This palette has been my daily go-to this entire year. If you like that golden smokey look, I think you’ll like this palette as well. The quality is excellent and the brush that comes with it is great, too. This brand is a CVS exclusive, so the price won’t break the bank. I have also dropped this palette numerous times, and it has traveled by plane and none of the shadows have broken.
Smashbox BB Cream in Light/Medium – $39
This BB cream from Smashbox was a Christmas gift, and I personally think it’s worth every penny. I use it daily and it has replaced my foundation. Sometimes I apply powder over it, but it’s not necessary. Don’t want to spend full price? The travel version is the perfect size and it’s $20 cheaper. However it only comes in Light and Light/Medium in the travel-size.
Physicians Forumla #InstaReady Concealer in Medium – $10.99
I feel it’s difficult to find concealers that have sunscreen in them, and I don’t understand why. But Physicians Formula always has my back when it comes to sun protection, so I had to buy this newbie when I saw it at CVS. It offers great coverage and I love the blending tool it comes with. My only complaint about this product is the bottle. No matter how hard I try, I always squeeze out too much (and a little goes a long way). So much has gone to waste!
Sephora Collection Rouge Lip Tint in Orange – $12
This product is amazing! It’s a lip stain and the intensity is buildable. One coat is very light and subtle, but three coats will give you a bold lip. It lasts for most of the morning and the color doesn’t transfer on anything. Definitely try it if you’re not a lipstick fan!
Physicians Formula Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Balm Bronzer & Blush with SPF 30 – $6.99
This duo is excellent! I’m not a blush person, so that isn’t used too often, but I wear the bronzer every day. It also has SPF, which is a huge selling point for me.
Trestique Lip Crayon in Belize Bordeaux – $28
My favorite thing about this lip color is how it dries onto my lips without making my lips look dehydrated (like matte lipstick). It feels like a chapstick during application.
Roller Lash by Benefit Cosmetics – $12
I received this mascara in a Birchbox quite awhile ago, and I finally started using it recently. I messed up big time, it’s excellent! I think the travel-size version is better since you have more control during application.
