Clear It Out

Thanks to winter and some strange and chaotic weather, there is a good chance that your outdoor space is going to need a little tender loving care.

Start by removing any leaves, sticks, or other natural debris, and clear up any pathways or your lawn grass to see what you are working with. There is no need to put all of these in plastic bags, as they will biodegrade naturally, so if you have a compost bin or area, this will make a sweet little winter home for the wildlife who need it.

Once you have swept up every stray twig, a rogue piece of molding fruit, or resilient moss, you will be able to access the very base of your garden and what you would like to do with it next.

Upcycle Your Furniture

If you were fortunate to be able to put your garden furniture away in a garage or storage shed, then there is a good chance that everything has remained intact and will most likely just need a little light dusting off. However, you still might want something completely new or different. Garden furniture is not cheap, so why not upcycle what you have? There is not much a lick of paint cannot transform, so think about any color schemes you might be interested in and choose your colors wisely. You could then upgrade any other bits and pieces around your garden to match, such as plant pots or even a feature fence.

That being said, if you can splurge on one item for your garden, let it be a furniture piece. The more comfortable you are, the more likely you are to stay outside. Investing in some large bean bags will offer you the ultimate comfort. They are easy to move around, so you can chase the sun as it moves! They are washable, and you can fit more than one person on them if you want to get cozy and look at the stars.

Plant Some Trimmings

You will find there are plenty of generous people who are happy to give you offcuts of their plants for a very small fee, or even free. This is an excellent way to get a new and diverse garden without having to spend a lot of money on new plants. If you start propagating any cuttings now, they should be ready for you to plant in spring! Think about what plants you would like in your garden, where to place them in terms of sunlight, and what the plant’s needs are for the best results!
