It goes without saying that self-care is the secret to a happier life, but what can you do to put this idea into action?

Self-care is a general term that involves an array of activities and perceptions to achieve a much more fruitful lifestyle, so it’s all about working out what’s best for you and how you can implement these concepts into your day-to-day routine.

Science has shown that putting the time into caring for yourself will allow you to have a better work/life balance to improve mood, stress levels, and general physical health. So, here are four self-care tips you can follow:

Switch off from technology

It’s easy to be drawn into the technical world for hours on end, but allowing yourself to be stimulated by an overflow of information isn’t what your brain needs to function well. Instead of browsing through social media endlessly in your spare time, make the decision to switch off from any devices and have some down time.

This will allow you to reinstate balance in the mind and concentrate on things that are more important. You may not be aware of how much time you’re committing to technology; it’s only when you try and cut it out of your life that you’ll notice how much spare time you have on your hands.

Practice yoga

Over centuries, yoga has been used as a form of meditation to focus the mind, as well as improving flexibility and core strength. It is also a great activity for those who suffer with diabetes, heart conditions, and even mental health. Therefore, it’s a great exercise regime to keep up as a way of improving all-round health.

Drink water first thing in the morning

As soon as you wake up, make the decision to head off to the kitchen and grab a glass of water. As soon as you start to feel dehydrated, you may feel as though you’re lacking in energy, nauseous or feeling a headache coming on. To avoid beginning the day in a negative light, give yourself a simple form of self-care by re-hydrating. Doing so on a regular basis should make you feel much healthier over time. Be sure to start a routine and stick to it.

Eat well

Your diet has a direct link to how you feel, so make the decision to stock up on foods that have proven health benefits, rather than resorting to the easy option of eating junk. Your body needs fatty acids in order to work well, however, not all fats are good. Healthy fats are found in the likes of fish, nuts, poultry, cheese, and eggs which helps keep your body strong and your mind active.

Fruit and vegetables also contain vital vitamins, fiber and minerals to keep you healthy and feeling good in yourself.
