Happy Valentine’s Day! For some, this is an exciting holiday, but let’s get real…it’s all hype. At the end of the day, it’s a holiday with a very dark, bloody, and messed up origin. Today, it is for love, chocolate, roses, and teddy bears because…commercialism. So what happened?
Just a quick history lesson: Valentine’s Day originated in ancient Rome, however it was called Lupercalia, not Valentine’s Day. Women would line up to be hit on by men because it was believed it would boost their fertility. When I say hit on I don’t mean “girl, you have a nice ass, give me your digits.” I mean the men would hit them. Actually, they would whip the women. Men would kill both goats and dogs and they would whip the women with the hides of the animals they had just slain. Eww x 294842.
This is the the actual truth. There is more to it than that…also dark, also messed up. You should read about it. It’s very interesting how something can start with physically hitting women and turn into something sweet and thoughtful. 🤔
Anyway, it’s now 2020, men are still trash (🤣), and girl…you don’t need no man. That does not mean you should not show your love to your significant other today, but you should do that everyday, not just on February 14th. Right? Love isn’t chocolate, and love is not a rose. Will you accept this rose? Eww!
Receiving flowers on a random day is so much more meaningful and special than receiving them on a day where everyone is receiving flowers. So instead of expecting flowers today, why not treat yourself? Because nothing is sexier than self-love.
If you are in a relationship, enjoy it, I’m not trying to be a hater. Love is amazing! But if you’re single and you’re feeling down this Valentine’s Day…just remember this: Single isn’t alone, romance is a lifestyle, and you don’t need a boyfriend or girlfriend to have love in your life. Show your friends you love them, show your mom, show your dad, and dammit, show yourself.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
