Losing weight can be tough. If it was easy, no one would need to do it! Trying to lose a significant amount of weight can be even more challenging. However, there are lots of things that you can do and lots of resources out there to help you on your weight loss journey, and this is what we are going to look at in this article.

Get a Personal Trainer

“The only bad workout is the one you didn’t do” (Unknown)

One of the hardest things to do is to motivate ourselves. Hitting the alarm and sleeping through the training session you had planned, or giving up on those last few sit-ups rather than powering through can be the difference between staying at your current weight or dropping those excess pounds.

One thing that motivates many people to work out and make sure that they stick to it is enlisting the services of a personal trainer. It can be beneficial to have someone to train with and who knows what your aims are rather than having some exercises to do without any proper engagement or final goal to work towards to.

Try out a few different personal trainers in your area. As well as making sure they are good at what they do, you need to make sure you feel comfortable with them and that you ‘click’ with one another. If you are part of a gym, they usually have a few trainers available to choose from. It is an additional expense, but one that will almost certainly benefit you in the longer term.

Keep a Journal

Keeping a journal will change your life in ways that you’d never imagine (Oprah Winfrey)

A great way to motivate yourself and keep track of your hard work is to keep a weight loss journal. In it, write down any meals that you like, any fitness classes or routines that you feel are working, and the ones that you want to avoid. Keep note of your weight loss (or gains!) and how you feel every day. If you are struggling, or something does not seem to be working, you may be able to look back and identify a pattern, and when things are going well, you can read it to keep yourself motivated.

Drink More Water

Drinking water is essential to a healthy lifestyle (Stephen Curry)

One of the best things that you do to keep your body healthy and fit is to drink water. Most of us don’t drink anywhere near enough water, and when we start to feel thirsty, it is a sign that we are already running at a hydration deficit. Aim to drink at least two litres of water a day, more if you are hot or exerting yourself.

It is also likely to help with your weight loss efforts because we often mistake thirst for hunger. By having a glass of water when you are craving a snack, you may find that you don’t need the food after all, thus saving you from consuming extra calories.
