I have had very little luck finding the perfect drugstore mascara that works just as well as the mascara brands you can find at stores like Sephora. They have all sucked…big time.
The one I loved from L’Oreal got discontinued years ago (raise your hand if you remember the L’Oreal Volume Shocking Mascara) and I haven’t had much luck since. I still don’t get why the Maybelline Great Lash mascara gets so much praise; it’s on almost every mascara list post. I find it to be a very awful product that does nothing for my lashes.
Like most people, I have found more luck with the pro brands, my favorites being the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and the Hypnose mascara from Lancome. Since I don’t buy mascara that often, I usually have no issue dropping $13-$30 on a mascara that I love.
For the past year, my obsession has been the new-ish mascara from Benefit Cosmetics. It’s called BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara and it has been life-changing. It really gives that va-va-voom look without the expensive lash extensions.
Since I have been traveling a lot (I have been to five countries in the past 3 months), I have been doing my best to cut costs whenever possible. My Benefit mascara was running low so I picked up a Wet n Wild mascara for only $2.99 at Walgreens. I assumed I would hate it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It gave me very similar results (if not the same) as the Benefit mascara. Not joking!
If you’re currently searching for a drugstore mascara that you actually like, I highly recommend you try the Mega Length Mascara from Wet n Wild.
Why I Love It
It gives me very similar results and it really does lengthen my lashes. I also like that it doesn’t flake off throughout the day to make my under-eye look kind of dull and grey. Even the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara does that.
I also think it has the staying power of a waterproof mascara. Maybe TMI, but I’m going through a painful breakup right now and I have been crying a lot. Like multiple times a day and my mascara hasn’t been running😬. To get off this mascara completely, I need to use both an oil based eye makeup remover (I love the one from Boots) and a face wash.
