What To Do If You Hate The Cold

Posted February 20, 2026 by in Home

Some people really love winter, and they’ll be looking forward to it all year long, but there are plenty more people (perhaps the majority) who dislike it intensely, and they look forward to spring and summer instead.

A lot of the time, the reason for disliking winter is just that it’s so much colder, and since being cold is uncomfortable and unpleasant, and being nice and warm is so much better, it’s no wonder that winter gets a lot of hate. However, there are things you can do to make winter a little more enjoyable, and with that in mind, keep reading so you don’t have to suffer through it anymore.

Dress For Warmth

A lot of people do dress like the weather might be nicer than it is – they’ll put on a normal coat, think it’ll be fine, and then just end up shivering for the whole day. It’s optimistic, but it’s not a good idea. If you hate the cold, you’ve got to dress for it properly, not just put your normal things on and hope for the best because that’s not how temperature works.

Layers are always good, and they’re a lot better than one thick jumper. Put on a good base layer, a warm coat, and all the proper accessories, and suddenly winter becomes a lot more bearable.

Don’t Ignore Hands And Feet

Cold hands and feet are awful, and no matter what you’ve got planned, having issues with those parts of your body can cause plenty of problems. The fact is, you can feel warm everywhere else, but if your fingers are numb, you’ll still feel totally miserable, and that’s why socks and gloves matter so much and why you need to add them to your winter wardrobe.

Wearing something like HeatHolders thermal gloves for women can genuinely change how winter feels, for example, because keeping your hands warm basically makes the entire experience a lot less uncomfortable.

Make Your Home A Warm Zone

If you hate being cold outside, it’s really going to help coming home to a warm house – it’ll make up for all the discomfort you just went through.

You’ll need a few accessories to make this happen, so it’s wise to invest in warm blankets, softer lighting, slippers, hot drinks, cosy pyjamas, candles, and anything else that works for you and makes your space feel warm and comforting. The fact is, winter is a lot easier when your home feel like somewhere you can properly warm up again.

Get Outside In Short Bursts

This might sound strange, but avoiding the cold at all costs can usually make it feel much worse than it actually is…

If you never go outside, winter just starts to feel endless and depressing, so taking short walks, even just for ten minutes, can be an ideal way to help you adjust and make you feel a lot happier. Plus, fresh air also helps with your energy levels, even when it’s chilly, and, if you do it regularly, you’ll actually be one of the first to notice that winter is leaving and spring is in the air, and that’s enough to make anyone happy.
