5 Ways To Relieve UTI Symptoms

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are unfortunately common. They develop when bacteria enters a part of the urinary system such as the urethra, bladder, or kidneys. Typically, women suffer from them more often than men as their urethra is shorter so there is less distance for bacteria to travel elsewhere such as the bladder.

UTIs can vary from virtually symptomless to extremely painful. These symptoms can range from a desperate urge to pee, a burning sensation when peeing, or blood in the urine. Women can also endure pelvic pain or aching in the lower stomach akin to period pain or even a painful back. If you’re suffering from any of the symptoms linked to UTIs then contact your doctor right away as you will need to take an antibiotic. Even after starting antibiotic treatment, it usually takes a few days for those painful symptoms to go away

  1. Take Targeted Medication. 

Rather than just popping a painkiller, opt for a UTI pain relief that will alkalinize your urine and reduce the acidity of your pee. This will help reduce that stinging sensation you may be feeling each time you go to the toilet. Relieving that horrible burning will make your UTI a lot more manageable.

  1. Drink More Water

The darker and stronger the urine, the more painful it can be to pass even if you don’t have a UTI. The more hydrated you are the less painful it should be to pee. Increasing your water intake will also help flush out the bacteria from your system. This will help treat the infection as well as just aiding with pain relief. Try and limit your caffeine intake as this can irritate your bladder even more – the same goes with alcohol so abstain from both. 

  1. Don’t Hold Your Urine

Holding your pee and not going to the bathroom gives the bacteria time to multiple rather than be flushed out. Ensure that you’re following the tip above and drinking plenty of water. This in turn will help you pee more often and get rid of some of the bacteria. 

  1. Use Heated Pads

If you have pain in your stomach or abdominal area then using a warm heating pad can offer good pain relief. A hot water bottle will also work to soothe the pain. Apply the heat to the skin near your pubic area for around 15 minutes to reduce the cramps and aches you may be feeling. If you’d prefer to soak in a warm bath for the same effect that’s ok – just make sure you don’t add any bubble baths or soaps as that will likely cause more irritation.

  1. Abstain From Sex 

Sex can be super irritating to UTIs and abstaining can really help it to go away much faster. This is because then you have sex the bacteria is pushed up into your system, meaning it can spread further and be harder to flush out. If you do choose to have sex with a UTI, ensure you go to the toilet right after as peeing helps wash away any more bacteria.
